Why does the ovary crumble in cucumbers?

Cucumbers are probably a must-have plant on the site of everyone who has at least some piece of land and grows vegetables on it. We are all looking forward to the first crispy cucumbers and are happy to see a lot of ovary on cucumber lashes. But it happens that tiny cucumbers begin to turn yellow and crumble, the harvest is rapidly decreasing before our eyes. This can happen for several reasons, which I will discuss in the article

Reason one: unfavorable conditions

First, and due to the current rather cold and rainy summer, perhaps the most common reason is unfavorable weather conditions for the growth of cucumbers. Cucumbers at such a time try to form as many ovaries as possible, but when the weather conditions normalize, they simply discard most of the future fruits like excess ballast, since they cannot "feed" them all, respectively, everything that is superfluous is removed from the bush. Therefore, do not panic and do not worry, nothing terrible happens, the harvest will be, but with less ovary.

Reason two: removing barren flowers

Some gardeners, on the recommendation of friends or "because it is supposed to be so, why should the lashes feed too much" remove barren flowers. No ovary - no flower needed. But actually it is not. Most varieties of cucumbers are pollinated, respectively, barren flowers are male flowers and removing them from the plant, you deprive a female flower with an ovary from the possibility of pollination. Accordingly, a flower that is not pollinated cannot bear fruit and the ovary falls off.

If you have a lot of barren flowers on the lash, then do not destroy them, but rather reduce the watering of the cucumbers for a while.

Reason three: ambient temperature

Too high or low air temperature, as well as a sharp temperature drop, also leads to shedding of the ovary. For the most part, this concerns the owners of greenhouses, but sometimes the weather conditions on the street leave much to be desired. But if you cannot do anything about the weather outside, then you are quite able to regulate the microclimate in the greenhouse. To avoid sudden changes or extreme heat, do not forget to regularly ventilate the greenhouse or greenhouse.

Reason four: refusal to pinch

The refusal of pinching can also lead to shedding of the ovary of cucumbers. The opinion that the more lashes, the greater the harvest is erroneous, therefore it is advisable to remove all stepchildren growing from the axils of the first five leaves. There is no need to feel sorry for them, since there is a risk of being left without a crop at all. Therefore, at the first opportunity, stepchild the plants, not sparing the mythical harvest that you could get from stepchildren.

Reason five: thickening of plantings

Too thickened planting of cucumbers also leads to shedding of future fruits, since in this case the plants simply will not have enough nutrients and moisture to grow the fruits. Accordingly, the ovary will be shed. Therefore, before planting, be sure to study the information on the package about the distance at which it is recommended to plant cucumbers from each other.

Reason six: improper feeding

During the period of active growth of lashes and fruiting, cucumber lashes must be fed and ensure active watering so that they can "feed" the ovary and bring a full harvest. For example, in the active phase of fruiting, cucumbers urgently need nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. This means that it is imperative to fertilize with fertilizers containing the above microelements. You can fertilize with manure, you can water with water diluted in it with ash.

Reason seven: no pollinator

This point most likely applies to plants in greenhouses. Most of the cucumbers are pollinated by male flowers, but there are no bees in the greenhouse. Accordingly, you need to either start the bees, or carry out pollination by hand, touching the middle of the male flower to the stigma of the pistil of the female flower. Well, or with a brush.

That's all, these are all the main reasons for the shedding of the ovary on the plant. Hope this information helps you find the cause and fix it.
