In the spring, beautiful hyacinths have bloomed, and in the first half of summer, the vegetation cycle of the plant ends completely. What measures is it time for a florist to take so that in April and May their bright buds bloom their petals again? And what else should be known to garden flower lovers who are going to decorate their flower beds with hyacinths for the first time?

Features of storage of hyacinth bulbs

The end of the growing season is evidenced by the wilting of the aboveground part of the plants. In addition to leaves, roots also die off. This process completes its cycle around the end of June. The bulbs, which by this time have stocked up with the necessary nutrients, are chosen by flower growers from open ground.

Dry and clean them before storing them. For this, the planting material is left for two days under a canopy. After that, you can start cleaning from the adhering earth and remove old scales from the bulb.

Prepared bulbs are recommended to create a special temperature storage regime:

• the first 10 days they are kept at a temperature of +30? С;

• another 5 weeks - at +25? С;

• the remaining days before disembarkation - at +17? С.

Planting planting material in the fall

The landing begins from September to November. These terms depend on the region in which your infield is located. The farther south, the later you can start work.

For hyacinths to show themselves in all their glory, they need light, nutritious soil. The best option for this would be such a type of soil as sandy loam.

The bulbs are embedded in the soil to a depth of approximately 8-10 cm. In the middle zone, immediately after planting the flowers, the flower bed must be mulched. To do this, it is best to use humus, the thickness of the mulch is about 1-1, 5 cm. In addition, for the winter, plantings are additionally covered with straw or fallen leaves - about 15-20 cm thick.

Reproduction of hyacinths at home

It is not very convenient to propagate hyacinths by seeds at home. Sents of such plants do not bloom soon, about 6-7 years. This method is justified mainly in breeding work.

In a private household, reproduction by dividing the bulbs is the best method. But not every instance will be a good candidate for this. It is important that the bulb has a mass of at least 40 g and it is desirable that a couple of children form on it.

To increase the results of bulb propagation, use the following techniques:

• cut out the bottom of the planting material;

• cut the bottom and storing scales with a cross.

After such an operation, a larger number of children begin to form in the areas of cuts in the storage scales. But they will have to grow for at least 3 years.

What is required for forcing hyacinths

Hyacinths can be made to bloom in indoor conditions. For this, the bulbs are put on forcing. For this purpose, the best planting material is selected. Experts recommend taking bulbs weighing at least 80 g. In this case, their diameter should be measured - it should exceed 5 cm.

Forcing is carried out from the last decade of December to May 1. Depending on the chosen period, the storage conditions for planting material are also planned:

• if the bulbs are put on forcing at the end of December, then the hyacinths selected in June contain 2 weeks at a temperature of +30? C, another 3 weeks at + 25? C, in August - at + 23? C, and from September they are cooled to +17 ?WITH;

• those intended for the February distillation are stored all summer and until mid-September at +25, 5? С, after which the temperature is reduced to +17? С;

• specimens, which will begin to be driven out in March, are kept at +25.5? C for 4 months from June to September, and the regime is brought up to +17? C only in October.

After this treatment, the bulbs are planted in pots of sand, where they will go through the stages of rooting and cooling for 2-3 months. They are left in a dark place at a temperature of + 6 … + 9? С. And 2 weeks before the desired flowering time, the pots are transferred to a bright place where + 23 … + 25? С is maintained. In order for flowering to last longer when the hyacinths bloom their buds, it is better to keep them at a temperature of + 10 … + 12 ° C.
