Tomato growers have a hot season in May. At this time, seedlings of early, medium, and late tomatoes are planted. Work in the greenhouse is boiling, open ground is being prepared for planting seedlings. And in this hustle and bustle, it is important not to forget that for planting, you need to prepare not only the place of constant registration of plants, but also the seedlings themselves, so that the stress from the transplant does not become the gateway for various diseases
How to prepare your seating arrangement for disembarkation
The readiness of seedlings for planting is easy to determine by their appearance. Such a plant has a rather thick stem, about 20 cm high, and the buds are already clearly visible on the first flower cluster.
At least 5 hours before transplanting, the seedlings must be watered abundantly. Even earlier, a few days before planting, plants should be sprayed with a fungicide to prevent fungal infestation.
One of the most effective methods of protecting seedlings from diseases is the treatment of young plants with Bordeaux liquid. To prepare 1 liter of 1 percent Bordeaux liquid, take 10 g of copper sulfate and the same amount of quicklime, which are diluted in half-liter containers with water. Then the milk of lime is combined with a solution of copper sulfate, while stirring continuously with a wooden stick.
The composition should take on a turquoise hue and have a neutral reaction. If there is no indicator to check acidity, you can use an iron object. With an excess of vitriol in the liquid, the object becomes covered with a bloom of a red hue. In this case, lime must be added. Due to this reaction, iron dishes are not used when preparing Bordeaux liquid.
It is recommended to use Bordeaux liquid on the day of preparation. To prevent it from draining off the leaves immediately after spraying, experienced gardeners make its consistency more sticky. This is done with plain sugar. It is added to the liquid at the rate of 1 teaspoon per 5 liters of fungicide.
Safe predecessors on site
Another important measure for the prevention of diseases is the choice of a plot for tomatoes on which potatoes, peppers or the same tomatoes were not grown before. This is done so that plants do not transmit diseases common to each other through the soil. But the predecessors, which have no common enemies with tomatoes, are cucumbers, beans, peas, onions, cabbage, beets, carrots. Therefore, after them, planting tomatoes is not dangerous.
Before planting seedlings, it is recommended to dig up the site, but without wrapping the layer. Tomatoes love flat ground. They are planted in furrows or holes. They must first be watered. Each plant will need about 1 liter of water.
Seedling planting scheme
Planting density depends on the size of the future bush. If these are seedlings of early varieties that form small bushes, then they are planted with row spacing of about 70 cm, 5-6 pcs. on an area of 1 sq. planting is not recommended.
Transplanting
During planting, greenhouse seedlings are planted a little deeper in the ground compared to how they grew in a shelter. The pot is also buried about 3 cm below ground level. To save elongated seedlings, they are placed slightly at an angle, tilting the top towards the northwest. At the same time, before transplanting, several lower leaves are removed in order to bury the stem high with earth.
During the planting process, make sure that the roots do not bend and are directed clearly downward. They should be carefully squeezed with earth from all sides. Immediately after transplanting, the seedlings are watered, and dry earth is poured on top.
