Buttercup baldellia is found in water bodies in Europe and North Africa. It grows mainly in ponds, in small rivers and in humid areas. However, buttercup baldellia can grow in slightly brackish water. It should be noted that it is an excellent solution for decorating aquariums - the graceful buttercup baldellia gives them an original and unique look. And its external resemblance to buttercups makes the environment much more comfortable

Getting to know the plant

Buttercup baldellia is a marsh plant, the size of which is very small, and the leaves are collected in funny rosettes. Young lanceolate or linear leaves growing under water are characterized by the absence of lateral veins. Their width reaches seven millimeters, and their length is up to fifty-five centimeters. The grown leaves can be either entirely above-water or floating. As a rule, they are painted in a wide variety of shades of green, and their petioles can grow up to twenty centimeters. The tops of all leaves are pointed, and their bases are not only pointed, but also descending.

It is noteworthy that in reservoirs with a rather low water level, as well as in aquariums, floating leaves are formed first, and only then surface ones. In other conditions, it is more often the opposite.

Inflorescences of buttercup baldelia are formed by one to four pretty flowers. The flowers of this beauty, collected in brushes, umbrellas or whorls, are endowed with six yellow stamens. Each whorl contains from nine to thirteen, and sometimes up to thirty flowers. The flowers themselves are relatively small, reaching about one centimeter in length and painted in pale pink or white tones. Each flower contains many green carpels, from which subsequently, in addition to the fruits, develop three graceful petals equipped with ragged edges. And the length of the pedicels of this beauty is in the range from three to eleven centimeters.

Numerous fruits of buttercup baldellia are spirally arranged spirally green round veined nuts, the thickness of which is 1 mm, and the length is about 2.5 mm.

This species is listed in the international Red Book. There are two subspecies of buttercup baldellia, distinguished by a number of specialists into separate species. The differences between them consist in individual signs of inflorescences and seedlings (fruits, ovaries, petals).

How to grow

Buttercup baldellia absolutely does not tolerate high temperatures, so you can forget about growing it in tropical aquariums. But aquariums with bright lighting and cold water would be ideal for her. Often, buttercup baldellia is planted in backyard ponds - it tolerates even a strong drop in temperature very well.

The suitable temperature for this attractive aquatic inhabitant is about 20 degrees. In principle, it can withstand a slight increase in temperature for a short period of time. And to the acidity and hardness of water, buttercup baldellia is quite undemanding.

This graceful beauty needs bright lighting - its intensity should be in the range of 0.7 W / l. And the duration of its daylight hours per day should reach at least twelve hours.

Buttercup baldellia propagates by seeds. And sometimes adventitious plants are formed on the seedlings of this aquatic inhabitant containing ripe seeds. Buttercup baldellia grows very well if you provide it with proper lighting in conjunction with the required water characteristics. To make it a real decoration of reservoirs, you should definitely take care of creating the most favorable conditions for it.
