Buttercup baldellia (lat. Baldellia ranunculoides) - belonging to the family Chastukhovye aquatic plant, listed in the international Red Book.
Description
Buttercup baldellia is a relatively small marsh plant, the leaves of which are collected in funny rosettes. And the linear or lanceolate leaves growing under water are characterized by the complete absence of lateral veins. The width of these leaves reaches seven millimeters, and their length can reach fifty-five centimeters. Slightly grown leaves can be entirely above-water or floating. All of them are painted in a wide variety of greenish shades, and the length of their petioles can reach twenty centimeters. The tips of all the leaves are slightly pointed, and their bases can be either pointed or descending.
In reservoirs with a fairly low water level and in aquariums, floating leaves first form, and only then surface leaves. In all other conditions, most often everything happens quite the opposite.
Inflorescences of buttercup baldelia consist of one to four very pretty flowers. All flowers are collected in tassels, in umbrellas or in whorls and are endowed with six yellow stamens. Moreover, each whorl can contain from nine to thirteen, and sometimes up to three dozen flowers. The flowers themselves are quite small - their length rarely exceeds one centimeter. And their color is pale pink or white. Each flower is equipped with many green carpels - in addition to fruits, three graceful petals, equipped with ragged edges, develop from them. As for the length of the stalks of buttercup baldellia, it ranges from three to eleven centimeters.
The numerous fruits of this aquatic inhabitant are spirally arranged round, greenish vein nuts, the thickness of which is approximately 1 mm, and the length is about 2.5 mm.
Where grows
Buttercup baldellia grows mainly in water bodies located in Europe and North Africa. Most often it can be seen in ponds, shallow streams and in wet areas. This beauty grows pretty well in slightly brackish water.
Usage
Buttercup baldellia is ideal for decorating and decorating aquariums - it instantly gives them a very original and unique look. And its external resemblance to funny buttercups adds coziness and a warm atmosphere to the surrounding environment.
Growing and caring
In tropical aquariums, buttercup baldellia cannot be grown - it does not tolerate high temperatures at all. But it will thrive in cold water aquariums with bright lighting. This plant tolerates even a significant drop in temperature very well, which makes it possible to plant it in backyard ponds.
Best of all, buttercup baldellia will feel at a temperature of about twenty degrees. Of course, it is also capable of withstanding a slight increase in temperature, only for a very short period of time. As for the acidity of water and its hardness, the water beauty is completely undemanding to these indicators.
But the illumination of buttercup baldellia must be bright - its intensity should be from 0.7 W / l. Regarding the length of daylight hours, it is worth noting that it should be equal to at least twelve hours.
Reproduction of this beautiful aquatic inhabitant occurs by seeds. Occasionally, adventitious plants can form on seedlings that include ripe seeds.
