The strawberry belonging to the Albion variety has the following distinctive features: resistance to transportation, sweet taste, pleasant aroma, excellent aesthetic appearance. Often, such berries are grown specifically for sale, although summer residents are happy to enjoy such fruits themselves sometimes …

This rather original variety was discovered by breeders from California. To obtain this type of strawberry, two other varieties of strawberry culture were crossed - Honey and Clery. The growing season of this plant lasts from the end of May to the first autumn frosts.

Description

The most important features of the Albion strawberry variety are the resistance of shrubs to winter frosts and dry weather, high yield rates. Naturally, berries in order for them to grow presentable and with a pronounced taste will require a lot of care. You should also provide them with the necessary climatic conditions. The result will be that one bush of such strawberries will bear at least four hundred grams of fruit per season.

Each berry has a cone shape and a dense texture. The color is bright scarlet. Albion is famous for its richness and bright aroma. The shrubs of the plant can be twenty to forty centimeters long. This variety can also be distinguished by its large-sized leaves and erect flowering elements. During ripening, the fruits spread over the soil surface. Pests and diseases affect such a plant extremely rarely, for example, gray rot or late blight, which cannot be said about other strawberry varieties. The culture is not afraid of constantly changing temperature indicators. And not much care is required for her.

We grow Albion strawberries in our summer cottage

Some gardeners have long made it a habit to grow Albion strawberries every year in their backyard. Experienced summer residents can carry out such a process as well and successfully as possible. First of all, attention should be paid to the selection of a high-quality and suitable site for growing such a berry crop. Albion has a positive attitude towards sunlight and warmth. Therefore, shaded and very wet areas become taboo for such a strawberry. The soil structure should be clayey and light. It is best to choose a slightly acidic soil for the plant. However, you can improve this indicator on your own by introducing bone meal or lime.

It is also important to level the area in the area where the strawberries will be planted, since in the lowlands the shrubs will grow and develop slowly and not very well, and they will bear very little fruit.

If you choose a clay zone, then the fruits will not be very large in size. However, the sweet taste of the berries isn't going anywhere. Some gardeners plant a similar variety in sandy soil. Here the size of the berries will be large, but their taste spoils a little. One way or another, you need to pay attention to the fertility of the land. If necessary, you can independently feed the soil using specialized fertilizers. Per square meter of territory, thirty grams of humus, potassium and saltpeter, as well as seventy grams of superphosphate, should be mixed in one mass.

To obtain excellent harvest volumes, you need to prepare the seedlings with high quality and well. There are two ways to define its impeccable quality. First, the neck of the root system reaches a maximum of six millimeters in diameter. Secondly, the type of root system is fibrous in nature. A similar crop is grown at the end of the summer season or the first autumn month in an open area. But the first harvest will be possible only next year. In the first months, the plant directs its forces to the development of greenery and rooting in a permanent place. At the same time, during spring planting, strawberry bushes do not have time to do this.

Seedlings are planted in the beds, deepening by about two centimeters. It is necessary to warm up the soil well before the process, then the germination of the Albion variety will increase significantly.

Even before planting, you need to place the strawberry planting material for fourteen days in a cool place. Also, before planting, you need to trim the root system a little. Too large root outgrowths should be cut off ten centimeters. For better rooting, leaves, flower stalks and buds are removed. About three leaves should remain on one seedling.
