Greening of petals affects not only strawberries with strawberries, but also asters with clovers, plantains, petunias, phloxes and dandelions. Often, the causative agent of the disease even persists on them. The lifespan of infected bushes is very short - a maximum of two years. Such bushes freeze easily in winter, and are also extremely sensitive to almost any unfavorable climatic conditions. And you don't have to wait at all for the harvest from most of the petals of berry bushes affected by greening
A few words about the disease
When affected by this ailment, strawberry and strawberry bushes become dwarf, and the leaf blades become wrinkled and noticeably diminishing in size. The leaves are light green in color, alternating with yellowish mosaic colors. Subsequently, they often turn brown. The peduncles of berry crops branch much less and are also greatly shortened.
On flowers, the symptoms of greening of the petals appear especially brightly - the calyxes of the flowers increase, and the petals change, acquiring a slight greenish tint or becoming completely reduced. As a rule, berries are not tied from diseased flowers, and if they suddenly tie, they will certainly grow ugly and small. And on berries, the symptoms are expressed both by their browning and by their acquisition of a pineal shape.
The ailment also does not bypass the antennae of berry bushes - they are characterized by dwarfism, becoming thick and short. And on the seedlings of wild strawberries, even symptoms of chlorosis are often manifested.
This disease is caused by a malicious virus called Strawberry green petal virus. It is carried either by sucking insects (in most cases aphids), or by harmful leafhoppers, or by insatiable herbivorous mites. Pruning diseased crops along with healthy ones can also become a source of spread of the pathogen, if the intermediate disinfection of the instruments used is ignored. And in some cases, the greening of the petals is transferred with the planting material (for example, a mustache) and during vegetative propagation.
How to fight
Greening petals is a viral disease, so getting rid of it is extremely difficult. Particular attention should be paid to preventive measures - in order to prevent the spread of the scourge, the sites should be regularly treated against sucking insects. The fight against leafhoppers, which are carriers of the virus, is also extremely important. It is also necessary to comply with quarantine measures, control weeds and use only healthy and proven planting material.
Strawberry and strawberry plantings, if possible, should try to be laid away from plantings of crops prone to this disease (such as carrots, peppers, tomatoes, clover and some others).
In the fight against leafhoppers, it is recommended to spray with trichlor-metaphos-3 (0.2%) or fosalon, as well as anabazine sulfate (0.2%, you can add 0.4% soap or 1% lime to it) and 0, 3% karbofos or metaphos. And in order to destroy wintering leafhoppers and their eggs, in early spring, spraying with nitrafen is carried out (1.5%).
For preventive purposes, before flowering, berry bushes can be sprayed with soda ash (only 50 g of it is needed for a bucket of water) or colloidal sulfur (70 g for a bucket of water). You can also treat the vegetation with the drug "Topaz" - with it, as well as with one percent Bordeaux liquid, the bushes are treated before the leaves begin to grow on them.
Periodically, you need to inspect berry plantings in order to identify an unpleasant ailment. Berry bushes with signs of damage by greening of the petals are uprooted and promptly burned. And after that it is useful to disinfect the infected soil with 2% nitrafen, spending 4 - 5 liters for each well.
