We continue to talk about diseases of strawberries
Getting started - part 1.
Another dangerous disease that greatly weakens the plant is a disease called brown spot. In the second half of summer, a particular spread of this disease occurs. The disease negatively affects the leaves, petioles and whiskers. First, small purple spots appear on the leaves, over time they will increase in diameter, their shape is irregular and even slightly angular. When tissue death begins to occur, the leaf turns brown. Black shiny dots appear on the surface of the leaves. Spores of the causative agent of the disease will be spread by insects and raindrops. The best conditions for the development of the disease will be high air humidity, average temperature and frequent rainfall. The causative agent of this disease will spend winter on diseased leaves, and in the spring, new leaves can again be damaged by such a disease.
When it comes to preventive measures, it is of course extremely important to choose healthy seedlings for planting. You should also spray the culture with appropriate preparations. For example, falcon and metaxil will do.
Another disease is called verticillary wilting. This is also a fungal disease. Initially, the bush will sort of settle, and then all the leaves will already lie on the ground. Over time, the plant will develop a reddish-yellow color. The disease first appears during the growth of the ovaries. A variety of weeds can become a source of infection. However, the main source is diseased soil, because this fungus can live in the soil for several years.
Control measures, first of all, will be prevention: it is necessary to observe crop rotation, it is very important to choose the right predecessors for strawberries. Of course, you only need to plant completely healthy seedlings. In the early stages of the development of this disease, Trichoderma should be used. Fundazol is a very effective preparation that is optimal for spraying.
Brown leaf spot is a fairly common disease. Actually, it develops in the second half of the growing season. There is already a massive dying off of leaves. The spots will appear on the leaves in June, initially they will be purple in color, which will then turn into brown. Over time, the spots will increase in size, it should be noted that this will happen rather quickly. Then the spots will acquire an angular shape, and initially they are rounded. This disease also belongs to the category of fungal, the fungus can spend the winter on already diseased leaves.
For prevention purposes, plants should be sprayed with Ordan in the fall. Of course, it is also important to choose exceptionally healthy seedlings. In the spring, when the leaves grow, it is very important to spray with Falcon and Metaxil preparations.
A disease such as powdery mildew also often affects strawberries. Initially, the disease manifests itself on the underside of the leaves, a white bloom appears here, which is very difficult to notice. Diseased leaves noticeably lag behind in growth, over time they also become rough. A diseased mustache will curl, the leaves become curly. As for the berries, they can become extremely unpleasant in appearance and also significantly lag behind in development. Humid warm air is the most optimal conditions for the development of such a disease. This fungal disease is propagated by spores, which can be transmitted by air currents or plant debris.
It is very important to use only healthy seedlings for planting. In the spring, when the leaves grow back, spraying with the Quadris preparation should be carried out in order to prevent it. As soon as the first symptoms of this disease appear, spraying should be performed using drugs such as Fundazol or Bayleton.
