Buzulnik toothed (lat. Ligularia dentata) - herbaceous perennial; a representative of the Buzulnik genus of the Astrovye family, or Compositae. The species is actively involved in breeding work; at the moment, many varieties have been obtained that differ in the shape of the foliage and the size of the inflorescences. In nature, the plant can be found in the territory of the People's Republic of China. Typical habitats are mountain and grassy slopes, coastal zones and forest edges.
Characteristics of culture
Toothed buzulnik is represented by perennial herbaceous plants up to 1 meter high. It has a straight stem, which does not exceed 1-1.5 cm in diameter. The foliage of the culture under consideration is of two types: basal and stem. Basal foliage is quite powerful, whole, kidney-shaped, petiolate, jagged along the edge, green in color with a brownish undertone. Stem foliage is similar, differing only in size.
The inflorescences are represented by baskets, consisting of light yellow reed flowers and light brown disc flowers. The baskets, in turn, are collected in shields. Blossoming of toothed buzulnik is observed in the middle of summer and lasts a little more than a month. Fruits are represented by cylindrical brown achenes. Among the features of the toothed buzulnik should be noted frost resistance and the ability to tolerate flooding well.
Growing features
Buzulnik toothed is picky about watering, especially if the crop is cultivated in a sunny area. The species considered positively applies to feeding. The first feeding is carried out when planting with humus and mineral fertilizers; the second at the time of flowering with a mullein solution. In the future, the solution should be applied every 2 weeks. During dressing, it is important not to allow the solution to enter the foliage. To exclude frequent watering and weeding, mulching should be carried out.
It is worth noting that the toothed buzulnik is resistant to pests and many diseases. To avoid collisions with slugs, which often bother the culture, it is worth pouring a small portion of superphosphate under the plant. To minimize the risk of powdery mildew, it is recommended to treat bushes and foliage with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or other biological solution. In general, the cultivation of toothed buzulnik does not take much time, this activity is subject even to a novice gardener and florist, because the plant does not belong to the category of whimsical.
Growing from seeds
The culture can be propagated both by seed and vegetative way. The first method can be seedling and seedless. The seedling method allows you to get stronger plants that will bloom a little earlier than those planted in early spring in open ground. Sowing before winter is also encouraged. In this case, seedlings appear amicably and abundantly in early spring, because the seeds undergo natural stratification.
Before sowing seeds of toothed buzulnik, you should prepare the soil. It must be carefully dug up, and then complex mineral fertilizers and rotted organic matter must be added. It is not worth planting the seeds too deeply, it is enough to deepen them by 0.5 - 1 cm. With the emergence of seedlings of planting, it is important to thin out, re-thinning must be carried out when 3-4 leaves appear on the plants. The optimal distance between adult bushes is 30-40 cm, but if it is not observed, the plants will feel defective: they will lag behind in growth and bloom poorly.
Use in the garden
Buzulnik serrated is famous for its high decorative properties. It can be used in both single and group plantings. They are appropriate in flower beds, in country-style flower beds, along the lawn and paths. The species in question goes well with many representatives of the Compositae family, but especially those whose inflorescences delight with purple, red, orange and lilac shades.
