In the previous article, I started talking about the types of secateurs. In this article, I want to continue the conversation about this, and also talk about what subtleties you need to know when choosing a pruner, what to consider first, and which parameters are secondary

I first saw such a pruner in a store last year, but was afraid to buy. I came home, studied a bunch of literature and took a chance, bought it. To be honest, I have never regretted it. First, it is very easy for them to cut branches. True, it takes several clicks, because the principle of this pruner is that with each press, the pruner goes deeper into the wood and then cuts the branch. But you have to make a minimum of effort, everything is done quite easily.

It was this pruner that turned out to be universal for me: it easily cuts both dry and live branches, it can be used for sanitary pruning, crown formation and remove dry unnecessary branches. By the way, I also partially prune roses for the winter with them. In my opinion, the only drawback of this pruner is its short handles. Therefore, it is good to have a regular pruner with long handles or a pruning pruner-pruner in stock.

Very handy and easy-to-use secateurs. With it, you do not have to climb a tree, look for a ladder or stepladder to cut off branches high above the ground, both alive and dry. The long handles of the secateurs will help solve this problem. Please note that the lopper is usually equipped with a retractable or folding handle and can be not only mechanical, but also battery, electric and even gasoline, so you can quickly and effortlessly get the job done.

Grafting secateurs

Well, in conclusion, I want to talk about grafting secateurs. Their name itself speaks of their purpose, that is, with the help of these secateurs, trees are grafted. This pruner is equipped with a special sharp knife that makes neat cuts on both the rootstock and the scion, which can then be easily joined together.

We acquire: what are we paying attention to?

First, decide what the pruner is for. Above and in the previous article, we examined the types of secateurs, what they can, for what work they are needed. Now you need to decide what you need a pruner for and what you will do with it, so that it does not happen that you buy an expensive tool, and then it turns out to be useless. Sometimes one pruner is not enough and you have to purchase more. Therefore, carefully study the information and decide how many and which secateurs you need.

Secondly, when buying, be sure to try the pruner: is it comfortable in your hand, does not slip, not too heavy, is it easy to move? If you experience any discomfort or inconvenience, then put the instrument aside and take another. The pruner must be right for you!

Third, pay attention to the blade. It is advisable that it has a special coating that will not allow the juice released by trees, shrubs and other plants to stick when pruning.

Fourth, when choosing, give preference to a pruner with several rubberized handles.

Fifth, if you plan to actively use pruning shears, it is best to purchase with replaceable cutting inserts, so that if necessary, replace only the plates, and not purchase a new pruner.

Sixth, do not neglect the lock that holds the blades together. Its presence is a big plus, as the secateurs will not open accidentally in your pocket, thus avoiding unnecessary injuries.

Well, in conclusion, I want to say that especially for the female half there are lightweight secateurs. They are smaller in size and lighter in weight, and more comfortable for a woman's hand.

Good luck with your pruner! And remember, the high price does not equal the reliable and much needed tool!
