In the first part of the article, we examined some types of wasps, but not all. I want to tell you a little more about the benefits of wasps, about why they should not be destroyed rashly, but it is worth trying to cohabit with them in the world. Wasps, it turns out, are sometimes very good helpers for gardeners, and some of them are not dangerous at all, but at the same time bring great benefits and help fight various pests. Let's look at a few more types of wasps and their features
Wasp larra
Wasp is very valuable for summer residents and gardeners. This wasp is the only one that destroys the bear, and she climbs into the hole, drives the bear out of there, stings it, while the bear is under the paralyzing effect of the poison, the larra lays an egg in her armpit. Then the bear continues its life, but is already the carrier of the wasp larva, which gradually eats it from the inside. In this way, the bear dies without any human intervention and without the use of pesticides. The size of an adult wasp ranges from 2 to 5.5 centimeters.
Wasp philant
Just like larra, it refers to burrowing bees. But this wasp does more harm than good. Another name for the wasp philant is the bee wolf. And it's not for nothing that they called her that. This wasp kills bees. And in the event that she settles near the apiary, then it may well destroy the bee colony, as well as deprive the apiary owners of honey, since the bees stop flying out for nectar, and the queen does not lay eggs. Accordingly, the entire bee colony weakens and in some cases may die. Therefore, it is better to destroy this type of wasps.
Sand wasp
Another name for this species of wasps, which includes many subspecies, is burrowing wasps. These are medium-sized wasps, up to 2 centimeters in size, living in burrows dug in the ground or sand. They hunt insects, including moth caterpillars and aphids. By the way, one of the few insects in which males are larger than females.
Ammophiles
Ammophiles belong to the genus of burrowing wasps. The length of the insects is approximately 2.5 centimeters. Like all other burrowing wasps, they nest in the ground. Their larvae are fed with caterpillars of butterflies, including nipple caterpillars. They dig the caterpillars of the scoop out of the ground, which they first find, then dig up and sting to paralyze them with poison. Then they deliver food to their larvae. Each wasp larva destroys more than a dozen different caterpillars per season.
Wasps of typhia
These are one of the smallest species of wasps, their size ranges from 6 to 13 millimeters, the color is completely black, without yellow stripes and other colored blotches. They live in the ground. In order to lay eggs, with their bite, they paralyze the larva of the bread beetle or May beetle, on which they lay eggs. Then, after a while, the paralysis of the larvae passes and they live on, but already with an egg in them. Then the hatched wasp larva eats away the larvae of the beetle or bread beetle and pupates. By the way, at the beginning of the last century, typhia was specially imported to the United States from China and Japan to combat the Japanese beetle. Insects coped with this task successfully.
But, nevertheless, despite the undoubted benefits, this type of wasp is dangerous to humans. They usually do not attack first, but if you disturb the nest, the wasps will immediately sting. The bite causes allergic reactions, including swelling and shock. Therefore, be careful and do not approach the wasp's nest unnecessarily!
But with all the advantages, it is important not to forget that many wasps spoil sweet soft fruits such as grapes, plums, pears, melons, and so on. In addition, it should be remembered that the bites of some species of wasps are poisonous and if the wasps attack in a swarm, they can pinch to death, so you don't really want to have such dangerous neighbors at your dacha. But after all, not all wasps are poisonous. Nevertheless, it is up to you to leave the wasps on the site or try to destroy them. I hope the information from the article will be useful and help you make the right decision!
Of course, the article does not cover all types of wasps, but only the main ones. But this information will also help in deciding whether or not to leave wasps on the site.
