August in the city of Mayakovsky's prophecy

The prophecy of Vladimir Mayakovsky that at the Siberian construction site, still full of hardships and everyday inconveniences, "the garden to bloom" has come true. Even in August, when every passing day reminds of the end of summer, the city is buried in greenery of many-sided trees, fragrant with bright flower beds and demonstrates an enviable cleanliness of streets and lawns, not inferior to European cities and overseas resorts

Kuznetsk is 400 years old

For four centuries, the city has been alive on the banks of the Siberian river Tom, which was born among the dense taiga as a Russian prison, securing the belonging of the rich Siberian lands to the Russian state. Over the long years of the city's life, many generations have changed that survived the bloody revolution, the heroic watch of workers at the factory machines and in the heat of the hot metallurgy workshops during the Second World War, the dashing nineties of the last century, when the store shelves were clean and empty, and wages were given once in six months … The townspeople withstood all historical cataclysms and this year (2018) celebrated the 400th anniversary of the life of their native and beloved city on the beautiful planet Earth with festive events and evening fireworks.

I know - the garden will bloom …

Any grandiose construction of industrial enterprises is associated with the destruction of the flora, which for thousands of years adorned the earth's land and served as the "lungs of the planet." This fate did not pass by the city of Kuznetsk, now called Novokuznetsk, a powerful center of Russian metallurgists and coal miners. Strong Siberian Pines, including the nurse of man and taiga animals - the Siberian Cedar Pine, dutifully yielded the Siberian expanses to the new masters of earthly life.

But, the time has come when people looked back at what they had done, horrified at their "victory" over the natural nature of the Earth, and began urgently planting parks and gardens, planting greenery on dusty city streets and courtyards, planting lawns and bright, fragrant flower beds. The city seemed to be reborn, proud of the cleanliness of the streets and the many-sided herbs. The prophecy of the Russian poet - a patriot of Russian life, came true.

Multicolored Petunia

Petunia, which surprised me with a rich palette of colors in various resort areas of the planet, has now firmly established itself on the streets and parks of our industrial city, decorating it from May to October. A relative of Potatoes and Tomatoes in the Solanaceae family, inherited by Humanity from the American Indians, today is not inferior to these breadwinners in its popularity among urban designers and Novokuznetsk summer residents.

She manages to be located not only on city flower beds, but also to climb concrete supports, create bright communities in metal flowerpots on fences and "fences", decorate window cornices of shops and residential buildings, or stand out as a bright salty spot among the city asphalt in August, trying with all her with bright colors to prolong the summer charm of nature.

Tropical exotic in Siberian land

Along with homegrown representatives of the plant world, such as sunny yellow-eyed fragrant Dandelions, powerful and ruffy Burdock, ubiquitous cute Chamomile, medicinal and at the same time weedy Rarepot, a healing Plantain that does not lend itself to trampling … overseas strange plants have become frequent guests in flower beds.

Look at this spectacular member of the genus

Celosia from the Amaranth family, which fully justifies its generic name with its inflorescence resembling a tongue of flame.

Indeed, the Latin name "Celosia" is based on a consonant Greek word meaning "flaming" or "burning". The heat-loving plant feels quite comfortable on Siberian soil, keeping up with pink Petunia.

Or these picturesque thickets

Castor oil plant from the Euphorbia family, toxic and healing, the seeds of which are shared with humans with castor oil used for medicinal and lubricating purposes.

Such is it today, the garden city praised by Vladimir Mayakovsky!
