Aponogeton Loria is a luxurious inhabitant of reservoirs in the territory of the state of Papua New Guinea. Most often it can be seen in streams and rivulets with clear water and turbulent currents. As a rule, this exquisite aquatic inhabitant takes root at a depth of about a meter in silty loose soil. Aponogeton Loria can also be kept for a short time in aquariums, the design of which will certainly benefit from the use of this wonderful plant
Getting to know the plant
The length of the rhizomes of the aponogeton Loria reaches four centimeters, and their width is two. Leathery leaf blades with wavy edges are ribbon-shaped and can be colored either olive green or brown. They grow in length up to seventy centimeters, and in width - up to four.
The length of the petioles of this aquatic beauty often reaches forty centimeters, and the peduncles - ninety. Peduncles of aponogeton Loria usually do not have characteristic thickenings under the inflorescences. Covering leaves, growing up to twenty-two centimeters in length, can sometimes fall off, and the length of single-spike inflorescences on average reaches eighteen centimeters. All flowers are arranged on the inflorescences in a circular manner and are endowed with six stamens each. However, aponogeton Loria blooms exclusively in favorable conditions.
There are three carpels in each flower of a wonderful aquatic plant, and each of them contains from three to eight ovules. And the size of their fruits, covered with an ordinary peel, is about 6x3 mm.
In general, in appearance, the aponogeton Loria vaguely resembles the hard-leaved aponogeton.
How to grow
In artificial aquarium conditions, aponogeton Loria is able to develop for a year or two, and after this time it dies. Oddly enough, the reasons for such a sudden death have not yet been established. This feature of the wonderful aquatic beauty was revealed on the basis of experiments conducted by a whole group of researchers. The course of these experiments was closely followed by K. Kasselman, who discovered this plant species. Having collected several copies of the aponogeton Loria in Papua New Guinea, she handed them to her associates, who for a long time tested the exquisite green pet for suitability for aquarium conditions. In all of them, the aponogeton Loria, which at first developed splendidly in aquariums, died within a year or two. As a result, it was possible to find out only that this exquisite aquatic beauty has a rather short life cycle.
Nevertheless, aponogeton Loria also has a number of advantages, among which one can note the relative ease of its cultivation and the average growth rate. In addition, it is quite possible to keep it even in cold water aquariums.
The ideal water parameters for growing a luxurious water beauty are considered to be acidity within 7, 5 - 8, 0, water hardness from eight to twelve degrees and its temperature in the range of twenty four to twenty eight degrees. For the comfortable development of Aponogeton Loria, care must be taken to create a tangible flow of water in the aquarium. This can be done by directing a filter outlet along one of the long aquarium walls or by providing enhanced aeration of the water in the aquarium. Also, at least twice a week, it is necessary to organize a water change of 1/5 of the total volume. Effective filtration will not be superfluous.
The soil for the successful cultivation of aponogeton Loria should be selected nutritious. It can be not only sandy, but also a mixture of fine gravel with sand. In addition, it is important to take care of good siltation of the soil.
Light for this exquisite aquatic inhabitant is best suited for moderate (its most optimal intensity will be in the range from 0.3 to 0.4 W / L), and the daylight hours of the exquisite aponogeton Loria should last from ten to twelve hours.
