A plant like
aponogeton belongs to a family called aponogetonic. The full name of this plant is as follows: wavy aponogeton, viviparous, in Latin: Aponogeton stachysporus, undulatus.
India is considered the birthplace of this plant. However, in addition to this, sometimes wavy aponogets can also be found in Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
This plant lives in ponds, ditches and swamps. The rhizome of the plant is clothed in a tuberous shape, the leaves of the aponogeton are translucent with a peculiar patterned pattern. At the top, these leaves will be narrowed, in length they can reach twenty-five centimeters, and in width - about four centimeters. As for the most favorable conditions, in this case the bush can even reach seventy centimeters in length.
Description of wavy aponogeton
So, a plant such as aponogeton wavy is considered to be quite common among plants intended for an aquarium. It should be noted that this plant has excellent decorative qualities. It is recommended to place the plant in the background of your aquarium. It is important to remember the fact that in small reservoirs, even if all the necessary favorable conditions are met, this plant very often turns out to be small in height, but it invariably remains extremely attractive in appearance. Actually, this plant is characterized by uniform development throughout the year. However, wavy aponogeton appears to be more attractive at the very end of the summer season and in the autumn period. In nature, this plant begins to bloom at the end of summer, but in aquariums, flowering occurs extremely rarely.
Growing a plant
For the beneficial cultivation of wavy aponogeton, bright lighting is required. It should be noted that a long period of absence of light has an extremely negative effect on the development of the plant. Natural light is very important for proper plant care.
As for the water temperature, it can range from twenty-two to twenty-eight degrees. At the same time, in cooler water, plant growth slows down, and leaf shedding can also occur. However, the tuber of the plant will be preserved in the soil, which will be able to recover if the growing conditions necessary for the aponogeton are provided again. For a plant, soft water is considered optimal, the reaction of which will be either neutral or slightly acidic.
The soil for growing this plant needs nutritious, in which there will be a sufficient amount of silt, however, with an excess of silt, rotting of the root system can occur. As for the substrate, it is recommended to choose coarse sand or small pebbles. For young plants, the soil layer should be equal to three centimeters, but for older plants, another soil layer of five centimeters is required.
In an aquarium, the plant will grow vegetatively. It is important to remember that one plant in one growing season can form about seven daughter plants. Arrows are formed in the mother plant, which will reach the surface. At each arrow, a small knot appears at the top, from which, in turn, new leaves will grow over time. Over time, this nodule increases in size, taking the form of a small tuber. This plant can be separated and planted separately in the ground. Actually, the root system is formed in a new plant rather quickly. It is for this reason that the wavy aponogeton is also called viviparous.
