Ambulia water is otherwise called limnophila water. This is one of the most beautiful long-stemmed aquarium plants - it is simply impossible to look away from the luxurious openwork thickets of incredibly juicy green shades. Aquarists love this beauty very much for its unpretentiousness and decorativeness. India and the island of Sri Lanka are considered the birthplace of ambulia water, and it gained fame at the beginning of the twentieth century

Getting to know the plant

Ambulia aquatica represents the Norichnikov family, reaches a height of half a meter and is endowed with a long stem, equipped with finely cut leaves painted in light green tones, forming incredibly original and very elegant rosettes on the water surface. Whorls often reach a diameter of 12 cm. As for the stems, their thickness can reach 6 mm.

Ambulia blooms with amazingly beautiful pale blue flowers with rather dark bizarre patterns.

In aquariums, this aquatic beauty is placed either in the form of beams along the corners or along their back walls. And the plants creeping along the water surface fold into a delightful green carpet.

How to grow

Abulia aquatic is quite thermophilic, however, like all other tropical representatives of the flora. The most preferred water temperature for its comfort is from 24 to 28 degrees. If the thermometer drops below 22 degrees, this water beauty will feel less comfortable and even be able to stop growth. But the rigidity and active reaction of the environment do not play a special role for its cultivation. True, you need to carry out a weekly water change, since Ambulia water loves fresh water very much.

Regarding the soil, we can say that its silting should be very moderate, and it is better to use coarse river sand or small pebbles as a substrate. It is worth noting that it is undesirable to use a coarse-grained substrate - it will provoke damage to the stems with their subsequent decay, as a result of which a beautiful aquatic inhabitant will begin to float to the surface. When transplanting a plant into a new substrate, it is important to know that for some time the beautiful ambulia aquatic can slow down its growth. A clay lump placed under the roots can speed up the rehabilitation process and give a magical impetus to its further growth. The growth of this water beauty will also slow down if the soil is excessively silted, so it must be systematically cleaned.

Lighting for ambulia aquatic should be quite bright. With a lack of light, its stems slowly stretch upward, as a result of which this aquatic inhabitant loses its aesthetic appearance. Of course, excellent sunlight is ideal. And the best solution for organizing artificial lighting for this beauty will be LB fluorescent lamps, the power of which should be selected based on 0.5 watts for each liter of the aquarium. If the light is clearly not enough, it is allowed to add several lamps - either fluorescent, if there is enough space for their installation, or simple incandescent lamps. Daylight hours of the water ambulia should be within ten to twelve hours, no more.

This ornamental plant propagates very easily, by cuttings of stems. Some aquarists propagate it by dividing the rhizomes, but this method is rarely used. Usually reaching fifteen to twenty centimeters in length, the separated apical stalk simply sits in the ground - it quickly enough starts up tiny roots at the bases of the lower leaf whorls. But immediately sending the separated cuttings to free swimming is definitely not worth it - such a measure will noticeably slow down the growth of the root system of the ambulia aquatic, and will also significantly slow down its growth.

If you do not want the ambulia water to spread over the water surface, the cuttings can be cut and either removed or planted in the ground, thereby continuing to propagate this luxurious plant. In general, ambulia aquatic is very unpretentious and extremely undemanding to its environment.
