Konica - Canadian spruce

The Konik spruce is an exquisite and noble element of the garden, which gives the landscape a special decorative effect and charm. The plant was bred quite recently. It happened no more than thirty years ago. Breeders have developed such a variety based on the Canadian gray spruce

Konica is a miniature plant with excellent appearance and the possibility of using it in landscape design. In home gardening, the tree also occupies an important place. Canadian spruce of the Konica variety is resistant to winter frost, and its lifespan ranges from three to five hundred years.

About the plant

The shape of the crown of the Canadian spruce Konica is presented in the form of a cone and a dense structure. The needles of the tree have a greenish color with a bluish tint. These short needles are soft to the touch. In modern landscape design, such spruces with black-green and emerald colors are also often used. Some of the root system is located on the surface of the soil. However, the roots still do not differ in large dimensions.

The main difference between Konik spruce is its slow development and growth. In one year, the height of the plant increases by only three or four centimeters. Up to twenty centimeters in height, the Canadian spruce grows only by the fifth year of life. At ten years old, its length will already be from seventy to ninety centimeters. The tree will receive meter dimensions only after fifteen years of cultivation.

Correct planting of Konik spruce

Any summer resident will be able to grow such an interesting variety of Canadian spruce like Konica without much effort and hassle. The hybrid does not have strict requirements for care and maintenance. The tree does not need to be trimmed like many other shrubs. But, despite the ease and simplicity of care, you still need to adhere to some rules and requirements when growing a plant.

First, you need to correctly and efficiently choose a place for planting the Canadian Konik spruce. In this case, it is necessary to give preference to earth with a loose texture, good moisture and air permeability. The soil also needs to be fertilized with organic ingredients. Konika also feels good in areas that are well lit by the sun. Still, slight shading is acceptable. One way or another, the selected area should be protected from drafts and not have groundwater passing nearby. Otherwise, the tree may die at an early stage of development.

For planting Canadian Konik spruce trees, it is necessary to prepare a special soil mixture. It should contain seventy grams of complex fertilizers and rotted manure. Compost in combination with garden soil is applied if the site is characterized by sandy soil or loam. After planting the trees, the trees must be mulched. To do this, you will need a thick layer of peat, which will be about seven or eight centimeters.

You can plant Konik spruce at any time, regardless of climate and weather. But it is important that at this moment the plant is in the calm stage. In the southern regions of the country, such trees are planted even in winter. However, experienced gardeners believe that the early spring and fall seasons are the best planting times.

For summer planting, wait for cool and cloudy weather. The first time after planting, the plant requires care in the form of watering, which must be done twice a week. One tree specimen will take about ten liters of water. Also, in the first few months after planting, trees will need protection from strong gusts of wind and too hot sunlight.

The basis for the care of Konica spruce is the surface loosening of the soil. Thus, it will become more moisture-absorbing and breathable. The land located under the canopy of a Canadian spruce needs to be mulched. For these purposes, peat or loose forest soil from under pines and spruces will be an excellent remedy. In addition to constant and frequent watering, you also need to spray the crown of a coniferous tree with water from a spray bottle. This procedure begins to be carried out already in mid-April. Top dressing usually occurs with the help of organic matter - six kilograms of manure mixed with garden soil will take one square meter of planting.
