This flower belongs to the aroid family. Therefore, you need to carefully plant the zantedeschia on the windowsill, since the flower is a poisonous species. At the same time, calla flowers are amazingly beautiful and mesmerizing in their appearance. The main advantage of zantedeschia is the ear, which is protected by an elegant bedspread. Also, a bright bracts also have a special appearance, but after the pollination procedure, the ear becomes a little paler, but provides nutrition to the seeds of the plant.

Conditions for growing zantedeschia

In nature, zantedeschia grows very actively, due to which it is necessary to create optimal conditions for this in the house. In the summer, you can grow a flower in the garden, but it is important to find a place where sunlight will fall, but at the same time there should be a presence of wind. The scorching rays of the sun are not a danger to Zantedeschia. However, she is very afraid of drafts. On a short day, for example, in winter, the plant needs additional illumination. The flower should be exposed to light for at least twelve or fourteen hours. If the flower grows on the southern windowsill, then a small shade needs to be created there. In the summer season, the optimum temperature for the normal development of zantedeschia is twenty to twenty three degrees. In winter, a thirteen-degree indicator is also suitable.

Ethiopian zantedeschia is most susceptible to growing at home on a windowsill. The long bracts in this plant cover the ear. The plant itself blooms in the winter month of February, and the flowering period itself lasts about thirty days. As a care for calla lilies, a cutting procedure is also carried out using a sharp knife of arrows, of course, if in the future there is no need to breed plant seeds.

After the plant has faded, it enters a dormant stage. As a result, it is required to always maintain a temperature of eighteen to twenty degrees. Otherwise, the flower will be at risk of various diseases. When the plant is calm, water it only to keep the remaining volume of water in the ground for a couple of months. At the same moment, you can observe the drying of the leaves. It is better to gradually prepare the zantedeschia for the transition to a calm state. To do this, you need to reduce the volume and frequency of watering and bring the flower out of hibernation.

However, during flowering, zantedeschia needs abundant watering. After settling, this procedure is carried out using soft water. However, over-watering can negatively affect the development and growth of the fleshy root. The creation of moist air will help preserve the beauty and attractive appearance of the zantedeschia leaves. For this purpose, plants are watered from watering cans and sprayed from a spray bottle. Additional pleasant circumstances for the plant will be a nearby aquarium, humidifiers for the air or a tray with pebbles.

Zantedeschia tubers must be transplanted into a new substrate every year. In conditions of early flowering, tubers should be transplanted into fresh soil at the end of summer. But when carrying out the procedure, you do not need to deepen the neck. In the same period, small tubers are also divided for subsequent reproduction. Tubers are cut with a sterilized knife, after which they are dried and placed in different glasses.

For the competent cultivation of zantedeschia in the room, it is necessary to select large-sized and spacious containers. Otherwise, the plant simply won't bloom. In one growing season in such a situation, the soil will be depleted, and then its fertility will no longer lend itself to restoration. During transplantation, you need to use ordinary soil, you can make a mixture for which you can on your own. To do this, you need to take fertile turf in the amount of two parts and one part each of such components as peat, humus, river sand and leafy earth. Approximately the same soil composition is found in nature, in those places where zantedeschia grows. There is also the possibility of growing calla lilies hydroponically. In fertilizers during feeding, you need to add more phosphorus, but less nitrogen. This will ensure an abundant and quality flowering of the zantedeschia.
