Every summer resident knows how much time and effort must be spent on only one pre-sowing soil cultivation. But many on the site have fruit trees and flower beds, which require separate care. And weeds are a lot of trouble, because they have to be destroyed regularly throughout the season

Many people carry out this heavy work with a shovel, hoe and rake, manually, and do not even realize that all this work can be mechanized, keeping manual labor to a minimum. A cultivator - a small agricultural machine - will help in this. He will cope with work not only on a summer cottage, but also in a garden, and even a small farm. After using this machine, the soil becomes soft, and the roots of the weeds, if the machine has the appropriate function, are crushed.

Types of cultivators

There are three types of cultivators on the market: light, medium and heavy. They all have their own characteristics that must be considered before purchasing such a machine.

Light cultivators weigh up to 30 kilograms. They are used for work on areas up to 12 acres.

An average cultivator weighing 50 - 90 kg is suitable for a plot of 10 to 50 acres. On plots over 50 acres, you will need a heavy cultivator. Such a machine will weigh over 90 kilograms. It is also called a motor cultivator. For heavy cultivator models, a variety of attachments are produced, which significantly expands the scope of their application.

Types of cultivators

All models of this car are divided into two types: electric and gasoline cars. The latter can have a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine.

* Electric cultivators are easy to operate, they do not require oil level control and special care. Mainly light types of cultivators are produced with an electric motor. In small areas, their use is justified, the length of the power cord is usually sufficient. The main thing is to find a power source. Their main drawback is the existing probability of electric shock, but modern machines have a fairly high degree of safety.

* Gasoline models are agile and productive machines, but they are difficult to maintain. Such cultivators work quite noisily, in addition, they need oil and special fuel. When using a self-prepared fuel mixture, there is a high probability that this will lead to rapid wear or even damage to the engine. The device of cultivators with a 2-stroke engine is simpler, they are cheaper, but their fuel consumption is slightly higher than that of 4-stroke models.

Technical features

The performance of cultivators directly depends on two characteristics: working width and power. The cutting width is determined by the cutter width. The configuration of the plots can be different, therefore, for their processing, it is better to have cutters of different widths, as well as a special cutter for virgin lands. Larger cultivators will work the area faster.

Tips for the summer resident

* When buying a cultivator for working on hilly terrain, you must ask the seller for the possible angle of inclination of the unit. The fact is that some models can work in any position, while others only when tilted up to 20 degrees.

* Among the models of cultivators of medium or heavy type, it is better to choose those that have a reverse gear, and among the light ones - those with a special lever for turning the machine - this will significantly facilitate their operation. The presence of several speeds for the selected machine will allow it to be used for different jobs.

* Units with an emergency stop lever are safer than similar ones, but with a Stop button. In the first case, the engine turns off as soon as the hand is removed from the lever, and in the second, you must first press the button and, holding it in this position, wait until the engine stops.

* Before starting work with the cultivator, it is necessary to inspect the cultivated area and remove all foreign objects. If they get into the moving part of the machine, they can not only cause it to malfunction, but also injure the user.

* If work with the cultivator is not foreseen for a month or more, then it should be prepared for storage. There should be no gasoline in the tank, and all metal surfaces of the unit should be covered with a thin layer of engine oil. It is necessary to store the cultivator in a dry and clean room.
