Why are acidic soils dangerous?

The vast majority of various horticultural and horticultural crops are able to properly grow and develop only on soils characterized by an alkaline or neutral reaction. Such conditions to a large extent contribute to the development of pathogenic microorganisms and the suppression of soil flora, which in turn entails a high susceptibility of rhizomes to a wide variety of rot and all kinds of fungal infections.

Dolomite flour not only perfectly helps to cope with the increased acidity of the soil, but also in every possible way helps to neutralize the equally harmful effects of heavy metal salts that can settle in various soil layers. Moreover, this valuable assistant contains about 40% of magnesium compounds (and their total content with calcium reaches about 80%!), Which takes an active part in the formation of chlorophyll, which is most important for plants! How to apply?

Before resorting to the help of dolomite flour, it is important to try to correctly determine the acidity of the soil on the site (it will not be difficult to do this using the most ordinary litmus test - that the soils are acidic will be prompted by its staining in red). At the same time, it is important to understand that acidity may not be the same in different parts of the site, so it makes sense to take samples in several places at once. And if the acidity is below the 4 - 5 pH mark, you can safely start using dolomite flour (but on alkaline soils, an excess of calcium can lead to inhibition of plant growth and a significant decrease in yield)! By the way, it can be applied both in spring or summer, and in autumn or even winter!

In the spring, the soils begin to deoxidize with the onset of April or in May - more exact dates depend on the time of planting various crops (usually this procedure is carried out about fifteen to twenty days before the start of planting work). Dolomite flour is distributed as evenly as possible over the soil surface, after which the soil is thoroughly dug up.

In summer, dolomite flour is used mainly for pest control or for top dressing. And some gardeners successfully use it to pollinate fruit trees in order to get rid of ticks, butterflies, beetles or flies. As for the intervals between any such treatments, it should be from four to six weeks.

The autumn application of dolomite flour is carried out either at the very end of August, or even later - in September or even in October. In most cases, this is done at the end of the harvest. Winter treatments with dolomite flour are not prohibited either - they lightly sprinkle flat areas (with a maximum angle of inclination of up to seven degrees, no more): when the snow melts, the nutrient fluid will thoroughly saturate several soil layers at once! True, in order for the above procedure not to turn into useless, the height of the snow cover should in no case exceed thirty centimeters!

It is recommended to treat heavy clay soils with dolomite flour every year, and for lighter soils, the frequency of treatments can be reduced to once every two to four years. If you use such flour correctly, you can significantly increase the yield of planted crops and significantly improve the quality of the harvested crops!
