Motherwort five-bladed is one of the plants of the family called labiates, in Latin the name of this plant will sound as follows: Leonurus quinquelobatus (L. sibiricus auct., non L.). As for the name of the five-lobed motherwort family itself, in Latin it will be like this: Lamiaceae Lindl. (Labiatae Juss.).

Description of motherwort five-bladed

Motherwort five-lobed is a perennial herbaceous weed, the height of which can reach one meter. The stem of this plant is branched, pubescent, erect and tetrahedral. The lower leaves of motherwort five-lobed will be ovoid in shape, they are endowed with a heart-shaped base and are finger-five-partite almost to the very middle. The average leaves of this plant will be tripartite and lanceolate. All leaves, in turn, are pubescent, from below they are painted in light green tones, and from above they will be dark green. The flowers of this plant are two-lipped, while the calyx can be either hairy or naked, it consists of five spiny teeth. The corolla will be twice the length of the calyx, it is shaggy on the outside, the upper lip of such a corolla is painted in purple tones, and the lower lip in the middle will be yellow and endowed with purple specks. The tube inside the corolla of motherwort five-lobed is endowed with a hairy ring and is somewhat swollen. This plant has only four stamens, while the lower stamens will be longer than the upper ones. Flowers of motherwort five-lobed are collected by whorls, which will sit in the very axils of the bracts. The fruits of this plant are nuts.

The flowering of motherwort five-lobed falls on the period from June to September. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Belarus, Western Siberia, the European part of Russia and Ukraine. For growth, the plant prefers slopes, wastelands, river banks and cliffs.

Description of the medicinal properties of the five-lobed motherwort

Motherwort five-lobed is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. Grass includes stems, flowers and leaves.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content in the herb of this plant of essential oil, ascorbic acid, rutin, traces of retinol, quercitrin, tannins, stachydrin alkaloid, quinqueloside and hyperoside.

As a sedative, this plant is used in the climacteric period, with neuroses, in the early stages of hypertension, headaches, epilepsy, Graves' disease and increased nervous excitability. In the United States, motherwort five-lobed is used as a substitute for valerian, while in England this plant is used for heart weakness, neuralgia and hysteria.

In case of hysteria, it is recommended to use the following very effective remedy based on this plant: to prepare such a healing remedy, you will need to take one tablespoon of five-lobed motherwort herb for one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture should be infused for about one hour in a thermos. They take this medicine based on motherwort five-lobed three times a day, regardless of food intake, one tablespoon.

With hypertension, you should take two teaspoons of motherwort herb five-lobed in one glass of cold and pre-boiled water. This mixture is left to infuse for eight hours, after which it is taken in equal proportions throughout the day. If applied correctly, the positive effect will be noticeable rather quickly.
