Aubrieta also known as aubretia. This culture belongs to perennial ground cover plants. This plant is especially valuable due to its abundant and rather long flowering.

Aubriet flowers are small, but quite numerous. In color, these flowers can be either pink or white or lilac. The flowering of this plant begins in the month of May and lasts for one and a half months. It is noteworthy that in some cases, repeated flowering is possible, which occurs in the autumn period. Under especially favorable growing conditions, this plant will form rather dense cushions, the height of which will be about ten to fifteen centimeters. These pillows will be strewn with numerous flowers.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of aubriets

A sunny spot is required for planting. With regard to soil selection, light, but not very fertile soils are preferable. Such soils should be well-drained, and the reaction can be either slightly alkaline or neutral. It should be noted that this plant will not be able to thrive on acidic and heavy soils.

The plant should be watered in a moderate mode, while watering is necessary only on especially hot and dry days. An excess of moisture can have an extremely negative effect on the condition of the plant, which should not be forgotten. It is worth noting that frequent watering of this plant will make flowering extremely scarce, and besides this, the growth of greenery will also be stimulated.

As for additional dressings, they will be required both in the autumn and in the spring. For such dressings, complex mineral fertilizers should be used. It is noteworthy that you will not need to shave off more frequent feeding.

After the end of the flowering period, the ground part of this plant should be cut at the root. It is important to remember that pruning stimulates the growth of young shoots, in fact, thanks to this, the repeated flowering of the Aubriet also occurs.

For the winter period, it will be necessary to cover the planting with dry fallen leaves. It should be noted that in the winter period the leaves do not fall off, and also do not lose their color. Nevertheless, with each new year, the bushes of this plant will become more and more weak, and also acquire much less resistance to any environmental influences. For this reason, experts recommend that cuttings should be carried out every year, which will allow preserving the most valuable types of shaving.

Reproduction of obriety

Reproduction of this plant can take place both by cuttings and by means of seeds. Sowing seeds should be carried out directly in open ground around May or September. As soon as the seedlings begin to grow, you should start performing regular fertilizing. As for watering, it is required only as the soil dries out. When choosing reproduction by means of seeds, the flowering of this plant will begin after a year.

When propagating by cuttings, it is recommended to use parts of the shoots that remain after pruning. Cuttings need to be rooted in a special substrate consisting of a mixture of sand and peat. The cuttings should be under the film. In August or September, it is recommended to transplant rooted cuttings into open ground. In this case, the distance between the cuttings should be about fifteen centimeters.

It is noteworthy that the reproduction of this plant by dividing the bush is also permissible. However, in this case, this plant will take root rather badly, which should not be forgotten.
