Aubrieta deltoidea (lat. Aubrieta deltoidea) - a flowering soil crop; a representative of the Abrieta genus of the Cruciferous family. Turkey, Greece and the Balkan Peninsula are considered the birthplace of the species. Like its closest relative, the cultural aubriet, belongs to common types, is actively used for landscaping personal garden plots, as well as city parks.
Characteristics of culture
Aubrieta deltoid is represented by perennial herbaceous low-growing plants no more than 18-20 cm high (usually 10-15 cm in culture), which form beautiful green or bluish-green rugs during their growth, covered with a huge number of small bright flowers. Plants have numerous, creeping, strongly branched stems bearing delta-shaped, wedge-ovate or rhombic leaves of grayish-green color, equipped with 2-3 (sometimes 1) pair of teeth. There are specimens with whole leaves, devoid of teeth.
The flowers of the Aubrieta deltoid are purple-blue, reddish-purple, often purple or light purple, small or large (depending on the variety, they are collected in loose apical racemes. The petals of the flowers are short, no more than 2-2.5 cm long, to the tip is narrowed. The species in question blooms for 1-1, 5 months, usually in mid-late May - early - mid-June. Today, there are many varieties of deltoid Ariet on the garden market, all of them boast active growth and abundant flowering, of course, while providing good care.
Growing features
Aubrieta deltoid cannot be called a whimsical plant, however, in order to achieve good results, it is important to observe certain growing and care conditions. It is preferable to plant plants in areas open to the sun, in the shade the culture does not bloom well, is often affected by pests and diseases, in rare cases it dies. In addition, in shady areas, the shaved area is strongly stretched, losing its decorative properties. Soils for plants are desirable light, loose, drained, moderately moist, enriched with nutrients (but without an overabundance). Dry, waterlogged, saline, waterlogged, too heavy, clayey and acidic soils are not suitable.
Aubrieta deltoid is propagated by the seed method, cuttings or dividing the bush. According to gardeners, the third method does not allow getting good results, since the cuttings take root very poorly. Cutting involves cutting the material and planting it before rooting in a mixture composed of sand and peat, taken in a 1: 1 ratio. It is recommended to plant cuttings in pre-prepared greenhouses. After rooting, the cuttings are planted in open ground at a distance of 12-15 cm from each other. Sowing of seeds of deltoid auricles is carried out in the fall in the ground under a shelter in the form of dry foliage or sandy mulch.
Care
Shaving care is not difficult at all and does not take a lot of time. This is a great option for beginner gardeners and florists. Plants need regular and moderate watering, loosening and weeding as needed, but at least 3-4 times per season. Mulching is encouraged; river washed sand can be used as mulch, its layer should not be less than 4 cm. Mulching with peat is undesirable, since plants do not tolerate acidic soils. Immediately after flowering, the aubriet is pruned, this procedure promotes new growth and re-flowering in August - September. With the onset of cold weather, the plants are cut closer to the soil surface and covered for the winter. Shelter is not required in the southern regions.
