Cryptocoryne white (lat. Cryptocoryne alba) Is an amphibian plant, a rather rare but very attractive species of Cryptocoryne, belonging to the Aroid family.
Description
White Cryptocoryne is an incredibly cute marsh inhabitant, often reaching a height of twenty centimeters. In this case, the minimum height of this plant is considered to be five centimeters. And the length of the very original leaf petioles of this water beauty can reach eleven centimeters. The front sides of the leaf blades are either smooth or pimpled and reach ten centimeters in length and three and a half centimeters in width. The edges of the leaves can be smooth, corrugated or wavy, and their shape is lanceolate, narrow ellipsoid or narrowed ovate. There are white cryptocorynes and coverts, the length of which often reaches eleven centimeters, and the average length of their tubes is one and a half centimeters. Erect bedspread plates boast a pleasant pinkish or dark reddish color. From the inside, they are slightly bubbly or smooth, slightly pointed and absolutely not wrapped. And they grow up to seven centimeters in length. As for their collars, they are formed quite clearly, however, sometimes they are completely absent. And the covering leaves of Cryptocoryne white are painted in the same color as the pharynx.
Systematically, charming inflorescences appear in White Cryptocoryne. There are much more male flowers in such inflorescences (from two to five dozen) than in female ones (from four to six pieces).
Cryptocoryne white boasts several varieties of colors - it can be either delicate olive green, or reddish marbled or brownish. And not so long ago, in 1990, it was possible to breed a pure green variety.
Where grows
Most often, White Cryptocoryne can be seen in the waters of Sri Lanka. As a rule, it grows along the banks of streams located in the tropical forests of this wonderful island.
Usage
Cryptocoryne white is used mainly for decorating aquariums - it looks surprisingly elegant and original in them. It is best placed in aquariums near the end walls in the background.
Growing and caring
The most preferred for growing Cryptocoryne white will be swampy loamy soils and highly shaded areas. However, it will grow quite well on nutritious or slightly acidic soils. As for the aquarium conditions, they are considered far from the most suitable. By the way, in the slightly acidic environment of Cryptocoryne, the white is also capable of leading an above-water lifestyle. And it grows, as a rule, in bushes, growing superbly with the appropriate soil. A good substrate is extremely important for its full development. Firstly, the soil must certainly be sufficiently loose and permeable, and secondly, it must contain the entire set of valuable nutrients. In this case, expanded clay or gravel will become an excellent basis for the substrate, however, it is not forbidden to use a mixture of these components. As for the size of the fraction, it should be between three and eight millimeters on average. You can add to gravel and all kinds of useful additives. By the way, a mixture of gravel with high-moor non-acid peat (the ratio can vary from 1: 1 to 5: 1), to which a small amount of sapropel is also added, has proven itself very well.
The aquatic environment for the comfortable development of Cryptocoryne white should have an acidic reaction, and the lighting should not be too bright (about 0.3 - 0.4 W / l). At the same time, the acidity of the water should be in the range from 4, 0 to 5, 5, the temperature - from twenty-two to twenty-nine degrees, and the hardness - from two to five degrees.
Cryptocoryne white reproduces mainly vegetatively, and its development cannot boast of a fairly high rate.
