A dietary and delicious cucumber. Part 3

The garden looks lonely without a cucumber patch. After all, one has only to approach such a manured cucumber bed, run your hand over its rough leaves, pick a fresh fragrant cucumber, and you will immediately believe in the existence of Paradise. After all, here He is, Paradise, next to you, on a simple man-made garden bed

So that the seedlings do not stretch

When growing seedlings on a windowsill, in a loggia, on a veranda, where the temperature is high, and there is not enough lighting for a light-loving cucumber, the stems of the seedlings begin to stretch in length. To avoid this phenomenon, you should open the vents to reduce the temperature in the room. If the temperature outside is above 15 degrees, you can take out the seedlings to the balcony or open veranda.

Hardening of seedlings

Anything can happen in the garden, this is not a sunny window sill for you. In order for the seedlings to be ready for the vicissitudes of the garden climate, it is necessary to prepare them for this, increasing the plant's resistance to unfavorable surprises.

One of the preparation methods is hardening, which is started a week before transplanting seedlings into open ground. Containers with seedlings are exposed to the open air for a day, watering is reduced, fed with potassium sulfate at the rate of 10-15 grams of fertilizer per bucket of water.

The hardening result can be seen on the leaves of the seedlings. Their surface is covered with a cuticle (thick shell), the color of the leaves becomes darker, sometimes with a bluish tint.

Planting depth of seedlings

Planting depth depends on the soil category. On light sandy and peaty soils, the seedling pot is buried completely, and on loamy and sandy loamy soils - only three-quarters of the height.

If part of the stem from the root collar to the cotyledons, the so-called hypocotyl knee, is very elongated, it is covered with soil. But such seedlings take root worse, often causing stem rot.

Which is better, a greenhouse or a greenhouse?

Of course, a greenhouse will cost more than a greenhouse, but you can work in it in any weather, which cannot be said about a greenhouse. It is easier and more convenient to care for the plant in it, forming the arrangement of the lashes, removing yellow leaves, collecting grown cucumbers.

Since cucumber lashes are tied to a vertical trellis in the greenhouse, many more leaves are involved in photosynthesis and nutrient storage, making the plant more productive.

As for watering, in a greenhouse such work falls on the owner's shoulders, while in a greenhouse this function can sometimes be delegated to heaven.

It is more difficult to care for a plant in a greenhouse, the branches are intertwined, the leaves shade each other, and therefore quickly become unusable, turning yellow and dying. Sometimes it is difficult to find fresh cucumbers in the "thickets" of leaves.

The negative aspect of the greenhouse is the sharp temperature drop when part of its roof is opened. The cucumber is very sensitive to such changes, reducing the productivity of photosynthesis in the leaves, thereby losing nutrient reserves, and, consequently, reducing the yield.

Power area

The feeding area depends on the place of cultivation, that is, it happens in the open field or in a greenhouse, as well as on the variety of cucumbers.

The traditional arrangement of seedlings in the open field is two rows, located closer to the center of the garden, with a distance of 30 cm between them. The distance between plants in a row depends on the variety: for mid-ripening plants it is 30 cm, for early ripening smaller ones, only 20 cm.

In greenhouses, each plant is allocated a more impressive area, leaving 60 cm between rows, and 40 cm between plants in a row.
