Basically, gladioli are considered to be flowers that are grown in an outdoor garden. But not all gardeners think so, because today it has become a very popular trend to grow gladioli in pots at home. In addition, this idea will really appeal to those who do not have their own backyard territory

The gladiolus flower is one of the representatives of the Iris family. Among the people, such a plant has another interesting name - skewer. This name was obtained due to the warlike appearance and the similarity with the sword of the leaf of this flower culture. However, in fact, gladioli are very light and delicate flowers that are popular not only in gardens, but also in indoor homes. Florists appreciate this plant for its rich assortment of varieties and colors. In addition, the advantages of gladioli can be considered a long flowering phase and a long life after cutting.

Decorative element in the interior

Even one copy of a gladiolus flower can become a lush bouquet, let alone several plants, and even with different colors. But not everyone knows that you can admire such beauty right at home by creating a small flower garden on the balcony or windowsill. However, it is also worth remembering that in order to grow a beautiful and spectacular plant in the house, you should correctly and competently observe all the features of the care and cultivation of gladiolus.

Experts believe that gladioli of small stature and with miniature flowers are most suitable for growing in indoor conditions. The stem length of such varieties reaches up to half a meter. In flower shops today you can find a huge number of species and colors of similar flower crops. Still, Gladiolus colvillei remains the most beloved and sought-after flower among all gladiolus species. These flowers are planted at the end of April.

As for color variations, gladioli can have a shade of one of fifty options. In any interior, lush and spectacular flowers look harmonious and very attractive. In the case when the planting of a flower was carried out in early autumn, a lot of attention and effort should be made to care for the crop. Then, in the spring, the gladiolus will delight its owner with a lush flowering and brightness of colors, resembling the flowering of their related crops in the garden.

Home-grown gladioli are not capricious plants at all, if, of course, you pay attention to some of the features of their planting and growing. It is necessary to plant a flower bulb in a closed type of soil in the second half of April. The choice of container for planting directly depends on the level of root growth. Therefore, it is more correct to choose a container with a height of half a meter and a total volume of at least fifteen liters.

It is also important that the gladiolus planting pot has the right drainage holes so that water can drain through them. Gladioli tubers should be sown only in moist soil. The planting depth is from eight to twelve centimeters, and the distance between the flowers themselves should be about six centimeters. The first watering procedure takes place at the moment when the shoots are already visible.

In order to grow gladioli indoors, it is necessary to give preference to miniature varieties. The container with the flower must be placed in an area where enough sunlight will fall. In the winter season, it is worth providing additional artificial lighting for gladioli. It should be observed in the morning and evening.

Indoor gladioli are very fond of good humidity. Therefore, the land in which the flowers are planted must be evenly moistened. Due to the lack of water, gladiolus can lose its erect stalk, weakening and decreasing flowering activity. However, the excess stagnation of water has a bad effect on the development of flower culture. Correctly chosen watering time will help gladioli to maintain their decorative and healthy appearance at home. It is ideal if the water for the irrigation procedure will be slightly warmed, but do not forget that the soil in the container dries out much faster than in street beds and flower beds. Mulching the soil with humus or peat will help avoid this deficiency. Also, this trick will provide additional feeding for gladioli.
