In its tropical homeland, in the humid forests of Central America, the monstera reaches the most real gigantic proportions. Its powerful lianas, like a snake, twine around the nearby trees, exposing their huge meter-long leaves to the sun. At home, these plants do not reach such an impressive size, and their requirements for light are more modest compared to other crops. However, this unpretentious exotic beauty has its own subtleties of care, which are useful for the owner of the monstera, so that every year the charming woman becomes more and more charming
Monster care
Like many other people from the tropics, monstera is very sensitive to moisture. She needs frequent watering and daily spraying. Water is collected in advance, it should be at room temperature.
In addition, you need to pay attention to the care of aerial roots. They form against each carved leaf at the bottom of the stem. It would be a mistake to remove them to give the monster a more decorative look. These babies improve the root nutrition of the flower, thanks to which it grows and gets stronger. They are collected in a bunch and immersed in the main or additional pot.
When it is not possible to lower these air processes in pots, and the apartment is too hot and the air is too dry, the roots are tied with moist moss. Small bottles of water attached to the monstera can be used as a humidifying container. Pouches filled with nutrient medium will also help.
Monstera transplant
The frequency of transplantation will be prompted by the monstera herself. In this matter, one must rely on the rate at which the root mass is growing. If a lot of roots appear, then a transplant is carried out every spring.
As a rule, young plants need such a procedure no more than once every two years. For them, a nutrient substrate is made from the following ingredients:
• clay-sod land - 2 parts;
• peat - 2 parts;
• sand - 1 part.
For older plants, make up the following soil mixture:
• sod land - 3 parts;
• peat land - 1 part;
• deciduous land - 1 part;
• humus earth - 1 part;
• sand earth - 1 part.
Breeding monstera
In the wild, the plant forms unusual flowers collected in a kind of cob, wrapped in a hemisphere of cream-colored covers. In indoor conditions, buds rarely appear, and reproduction is carried out by vegetative methods. You can get a new plant:
• from lateral processes;
• from apical cuttings;
• from stem cuttings.
Breeding procedures begin in the first half of spring: from March to April. After separating the stem or the top of the cut, for prophylaxis, it is necessary to treat it with crushed charcoal.
You do not need to put on rooting right away, the slices need to be allowed to dry. Then the planting is carried out in separate pots. In each, drainage is arranged at the bottom, then a layer of peat approximately 2 cm thick is lined. Instead of peat, you can take humus soil. From above, you need another 2 cm of sand.
For rooting to be successful, you need to create a favorable microclimate. For this purpose, they are covered with inverted glass jars. The optimum temperature is + 20… + 25 ° С. Watering is carried out in the morning and evening hours.
It is recommended to take cuttings that have already formed aerial roots. If necessary, this process can be artificially stimulated. In such an undertaking, wrapping the place of the future cut with wet moss or an ordinary sponge will help. If this procedure is carried out at the top, then in addition to the finished cutting, after cutting, the old plant will rejuvenate - new side shoots will soon appear here, and the plant will begin to branch better.
