Bourbon roses acquired this name for a reason. They took place on the island of the same name - Bourbon. Now it has a different name - Reunion. It is located in the vastness of the Indian Ocean. In general, Bourbon roses are flowers that came from crossing two varieties - Old Blush China and Autumn Damascus. On Bourbon, the resulting plant immediately became popular and in demand. Today, bourbon roses contain about five hundred different varieties. According to modern scientists, bourbon roses are one of the first types of such flowers. It is worth noting an interesting feature of such crops - they can bloom again.

Peculiarities

Bourbon roses can be divided into two varieties - large-sized shrubs (up to one and a half meters) and claimings (developed on supports or as spray roses). It is very easy to determine that this is a Bourbon rose. Their distinctive features are a pleasant aroma, large inflorescences, pronounced beauty in the form of a traditional shape and a terry texture of the petals. Unlike other types of roses, Bourbon crops have a strong vigor, branching and spreading crown.

The shoots of such roses are in the shape of an arc or straight lines. They are always very large and thick. The color of these colors can be both white and red. However, most are characterized by pink hues. All varieties of this variety of decorative flowers can bloom again. For some varieties, not only bright lighting is comfortable, but also light shading. However, there are several disadvantages when it comes to growing Bourbon roses. Such flowers are very sensitive to various diseases, including powdery mildew.

In the middle lane in the winter, in some cases, plants freeze if they are not covered with a special protective material. The repeated flowering phase becomes much weaker than the first, especially in severe weather regions. Instances of Bourbon roses are demanding and capricious in terms of care. It is especially important to observe the frequency and scheme of fertilizing the soil.

How to grow bourbon roses?

Any varieties of Bourbon roses should be planted in areas in the garden that are well lit by the sun. Careful attention should also be paid to the selection of the type of soil. For example, in no case should you plant branches on poor soil and poorly cultivated. Drainage and fertility of the land on which they are planted are very important factors for Bourbon roses.

In addition, the soil must be efficient in allowing air and moisture to pass through. Do not plant bourbon roses with other types of this flower together. The systematics of care must be followed with great precision. Watering and its frequency for the plant are not particularly important, despite the fact that with severe drought, flowering becomes weaker.

But feeding is very necessary for these beautiful plants. Fertilizers are applied twice in one season. The first time feeding is carried out in early spring, when the roses are just beginning to grow. For these purposes, fertilizers of mineral and organic types are excellent. They are used as mulch. Compost is ideal. The second time feeding is performed after the end of the first flowering phase. For this, products containing phosphorus and potassium together are suitable.

Another required procedure for this type of rose is a haircut. If it is not carried out, then the second flowering phase will be weakened and scarce. For pruning, you need to shorten the length of the shoots in the spring season. Pruning should be thinning and sanitary. Dry shoots are removed with it. You also need to carry out a haircut to activate the flowering phase. Here you need to shorten the skeletal branches. Withering flowers should also be removed as soon as they appear.
