The beauty and health of a rose garden depends on competent pruning. The varieties of roses involve different "operations" as well as different timing. Let's talk about the types of pruning suitable for specific varieties
Types of trimming
1. Strong pruning (low)
The event is necessary for all varieties of roses, and is also performed when planting young seedlings. The method corrects the bush, is aimed at stimulating the growth and formation of the plant. The branches are cut off dramatically, leaving one third of the shoot. Each stem is truncated almost to the base. The kidneys should remain 3-4.
… Moderate pruning (medium)
The method is suitable for all medium-sized roses, performed after flowering. Aimed at freeing the plant from unnecessary branches and forming a bush. Cupping is done above the fifth to seventh kidney.
3. Weak cropping (high)
Pruning like this is often called long, gentle. It is applied to vigorous and tall species (hybrid tea, climbing). Carried out when planting a seedling, at the end of flowering. The shortening is done insignificantly. As a result, 8-12 buds remain on the branch of the rose.
4. Combined trimming
It often becomes necessary to combine pruning methods, that is, to shorten the shoots in different ways on the same plant. Such actions are relevant for the formation of a bush, giving it an elegant shape. floribunda roses need a combined pruning.
5. Sanitary pruning
All types of roses can be affected by infections, this is facilitated by dry, damaged parts of the bush. Sanitary pruning helps to prevent this fact, aimed at removing injured and weakened shoots. Viable parts are truncated to healthy green flesh. Moreover, it must be remembered that it is impossible to leave a part of the dry brown tissue - nothing will grow out of it, only the possibility of the appearance of fungal rot will appear.

1. Spring
After the onset of warm days, spring pruning of roses takes place. Readiness for this action shows the state of the kidneys - the beginning of the swelling process. It is important not to miss the moment, if the shoots have started to grow - you are late. This event includes all types of pruning, with particular attention to sanitary. Leave 4-5 high-quality productive stems on a thickened plant. The main goal of making the bush strong is to remove unnecessary, unnecessary shoots.
2. Summer
Formation of the bush + sanitary pruning continues. Withered inflorescences are truncated to a healthy bud of the first five-leafed leaf. Shoots are removed, especially a lot of it appears by August on old strong plants. The branches should not shade the middle. At the beginning of summer, on roses that give out several buds, the entire shoot is truncated (on climbing, floribunda, boles). As a result, a stem with 3-4 leaves remains above the soil, on which full-fledged shoots are actively developing, which leads to abundant budding. At the end of summer, only cut the inflorescences.

3. Pruning after flowering
Do not allow fruit formation, it is advisable to remove each faded rose bud, otherwise the seed pods, while ripening, will deplete the plant and reduce budding to a minimum. On ramblers, climbing roses that give buds on last year's stems, the entire faded brush is cut off to a full-fledged leaf. This stimulates the laying of flower stalks of the next season.
4. Pruning roses for the winter
In warm regions, roses do not need pruning in autumn. In harsh conditions with covering bushes, before frosts, manipulation is carried out to remove unripe branches and shorten the stems. Some cut off the leaves and do not touch the shoots. In the fall, they act differently based on their experience.
Rules for pruning roses
Your actions must be correct, otherwise the rose may suffer. The cut is always done obliquely, with an indentation of 5 mm from the last kidney. Maintain a 45 degree tilt of the secateurs. If your goal is to get a sprawling lush bush, then the branches are truncated over the outward bud. If you want to create an upright one, cut over the inside.
On a one-year-old sapling, the shoot is shortened by half, then it will give at least three shoots. Annual branches are cut above the upper, high-quality bud (under the bud), biennial ones - for 2-3 eyes. All branches directed to the center are removed.

• Pruning hybrid tea roses
The bush looks perfect in a spherical shape. Flowering takes place on the branches of the current season. Pruning is carried out annually and dramatically. On adult bushes we leave 20 cm from the ground, on young ones 15. On lateral growths there are 2-4 buds. The middle is necessarily thinned out.
• Pruning floribunda roses
Combined strong pruning helps to eliminate the growth of weak stems. A special method is to keep the stems short and tall. This will activate quality growth and early flowering. Annual branches extending from the root are cut by a third. The middle is completely cut out. Shoots are cut all summer long (twice a month).

• Pruning climbing roses
The main pruning activities take place in the spring. Actions come down to giving the desired shape and size. When cutting, buds should remain on the lateral shoots (2-4 pcs.). During the flowering period, a cut of wilted buds is done.
• Pruning polyanthus roses
In spring, all strong stems are shortened by a third. Weak and deformed ones are removed completely. The center of the bush is thinned out. In autumn, we remove only weak / damaged branches.
