After writing an article about pruning roses, many questions arose. To make the answers complete and not get lost, I decided to put them in a separate article
When is the best time to prune roses in the fall?
It all depends on the specific area of residence. Somewhere pruning takes place in early September, somewhere you can prune in November. In order not to get confused, we need to be guided by the weather conditions. Pruning of roses and (as well as covering of rose bushes) should be carried out before frost (not to be confused with frost on the soil!), After the leaves begin to fall on the bush, the air temperature should be 5-10 degrees Celsius so that the cuts have time to "light up" a little. (I am writing based on my many years of experience in growing roses!). In the fall, we carry out medium pruning, 7-9 buds from the ground. We do this in order to calmly cut off the frozen twigs in the spring, without fear that you will have to "chop off" the bush at the root.
What type of trim should you choose?
We will talk in detail about hiding roses in the next article, since the material is rather big. For autumn, the optimal type of pruning is medium or low pruning, it depends on the height of the rose bush. Try to keep the height of the bush remaining after pruning at least 60-70 centimeters, since during the winter the branches will still freeze a little and we will have to prune again in the spring. If you cut the bush too hard in the fall, then in the spring you will have to cut it at the root, which will significantly delay the flowering of the bush, since the lower buds, unlike the upper ones, must go through several stages of formation.
When should a rose bush be banned from flowering?
It is not necessary to prohibit the flowering of roses until the autumn pruning. The only thing that needs to be done is to be sure to remove the shoots and side shoots so that the bush does not weaken and the flowers are larger. If there are many buds on the bush, then let it bloom while they are.
How and when to prune a floribunda rose? By itself, the bush of this type of rose is much more powerful and larger than its counterparts - hybrid tea roses. But the pruning of this bush is done essentially for the same purpose as for others: abundant flowering in the spring and summer, as well as the autumn period and the rejuvenation of the bush.
Spring pruning of floribunda depends on what year it grows on your site, but autumn every year, except for the year of planting, is the same: in the fall you need to pin all the main shoots, and also cut off non-lignified trunks (thin, green, soft) and all flowering and non-flowering shoots. Important! Pruning is done on the outer kidney, not away from it.
Now let's take a closer look at all stages of spring pruning
So, the first year: we completely remove all weak and diseased processes, and cut the main branches very shortly, so that a bush about twenty centimeters high remains on the surface. This will lead to the formation of new strong and healthy branches.
The second year: we do everything the same as in the first year, without touching the young branches, we leave them 30-35 centimeters long from the ground. In addition, we remove all intersecting and interfering branches. The bush should not be very dense, it is better to remove a little more than less.
Third and subsequent years: you can no longer cut the main (old) branches very short. But at the same time, it is imperative to cut off all intersecting and thickening branches. Sick and weak shoots must be removed completely, from healthy ones - to remove sprouts frozen over the winter or part of a branch. If shoots from the root have appeared near the bush - remove them so that the flowers do not become smaller and the bush does not "run wild".
And we will consider hiding roses for the winter, methods and terms in the next article.

Roses In Spring: Removing Shelter, Pruning
In most Russian regions, roses hibernate under cover. In the spring, it is important to remove the covering material on time, otherwise they will suffer not from low temperatures, but from drying out. Let's talk about what needs to be done in early spring in the rose garden
