Growing cauliflower on your site is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. This is an early ripening vegetable and, if you do not waste time and now start sowing seeds for seedlings in greenhouses, you can harvest as many as three crops per season
How to grow cauliflower
It should be borne in mind that cauliflower can be grown in two ways: seedling and non-seedling. Therefore, if it is not possible to use protected ground, it is quite possible to harvest from open beds by sowing immediately in the garden.
The seedling method makes it possible to get early production. Sowing is carried out in such a way that by the time of planting the seedlings are at least 45 days old. With the seedless method, you need to be prepared for the vegetable to ripen for about 90-100 days. This makes it possible to simultaneously grow compaction crops on the beds. For this purpose, they use radish, lettuce, dill and other vegetables with a short growing season - 30-45 days.
Caring for cauliflower in the garden
The same soils are suitable for cauliflower as for its sister - white cabbage: medium-heavy soil, loam, manure introduced in the fall. For 10 square meters, the seeding rate is 1.5 g of seeds. In a row, a hole is made about 30x60 cm in size, 3-5 seeds are dipped into each. Having shaken by the ground, the crops are watered. The row spacing is left 55-60 cm - they are filled with seals.
After 2 weeks from the day of disembarkation, cabbage needs abundant watering. Then the next morning it is recommended to apply top dressing. For this, bird droppings diluted with water in proportions of 1:10 are suitable. If it is not possible to use such fertilizers, mineral dressings are used:
• 12-15 g of ammonium nitrate per bucket of water;
• 8-10 g of potassium chloride with the same amount of water.
Fertilization is carried out again in a week.
Cauliflower is one of those crops that need hilling. This procedure is repeated every two weeks. After moistening the soil, the beds should be loosened:
• on light soils, the processing depth should be about 5-6 cm;
• on heavy soil they loosen to a depth of 10-12 cm.
Processing of row spacings, hilling is stopped when the leaves close.
To keep the heads white
You may notice that the uncoated plant heads are starting to turn black. To avoid this, they must be covered. You can fold the leaves over the inflorescences and tie them. But there is an even easier way - to bend and break the leaves. It is important not to miss the moment and cut off the heads before they become loose and start to crumble. They will be well stored at a temperature of about 0 ° C for a week and a half. The shelf life can be extended up to 30 days if the cut heads with 3-4 covering leaves are kept in plastic bags at a temperature of about -1 ° C.
Second harvest
Do not rush to uproot the stumps from the cut off heads. When they look sturdy, have dark green taut leaves, they can be harvested again.
New heads are tied on young shoots that are formed from axillary buds - they grow near the root collar of the stalk. You will not be able to get one more "cabbage" from each one. But if you leave 1-2 of the strongest, then they can hit the head with a mass of 400-500 g. All other shoots are broken from the trunk. A re-crop will grow faster if it is watered and fertilized enough, just like the previous crop.
For autumn consumption, re-crops are carried out in June. If the cold and frost come early, the cabbage can be grown in greenhouses. Plants with well-developed leaves are suitable for this, in which the head is tied up and has grown at least 3 cm. Due to the nutrients from the leaves, even without enough light, cabbage can increase in size by 3-4 times.

Cauliflower: Add Bright Colors To The Beds
The growing popularity of white-headed cauliflower in vegetable gardens is a worthy competitor to its white-headed relative. And there are good reasons for this: in terms of nutritional value, it is close to chicken meat, and at the same time, it is better absorbed by its head sister. And if you grow cauliflower, which also has a bright shade - orange, purple, green - the health benefits of eating this vegetable can be increased significantly
Cabbage Why. Cracking Heads
