In our latitudes, the shoot limnobium is usually kept in aquariums, and it is extremely quickly acclimatized in them and performs not only decorative functions, but also shading functions. With a fast growth rate, this handsome man is able to completely cover the entire surface of the aquarium. And the fibrous roots of this plant perfectly cleanse the water from its turbidity

Getting to know the plant

Glossy leaves of limnobium shoot-bearing sit on short petioles and reach three centimeters in diameter. They are heart-shaped and form small rosettes, each of which contains five to six leaves. The color of the leaves can vary from olive green to faint pale greenish. And the roots of this aquatic inhabitant, as a rule, do not reach the bottom, despite the fact that their length can be 30 cm.

Inflorescences of limnobium escaping are umbellate, and the flowers are endowed with yellowish or greenish-white perianths. Globular or wide-ellipsoid fruits do not open properly when ripe. They can be either ribbed or smooth and contain spiny elliptical seeds.

Limnobium escaping is good because it is able to purify water from all kinds of impurities. And the natural light filter from it turns out to be simply magnificent.

How to grow

In artificial conditions, limnobium shoot-bearing is able to grow well throughout all seasons. It adapts quite well to a solid range of temperatures - it grows and multiplies equally productively both at twenty degrees and at thirty. This feature allows you to grow this green pet in both tropical and temperate aquariums. But if the thermometer drops below twenty degrees, then the growth of the limnobium shoot will immediately slow down, and the plant itself may slightly decrease in size.

It is preferable to keep this handsome man in open aquariums, as it is highly sensitive to condensation collecting on the aquarium lids.

As for water, its hardness in the range from ten to twelve degrees is most suitable for growing limnobium shoot-bearing, and an active reaction is not a significant factor.

For the full development and growth of this aquatic beauty, very intense lighting is required, however, the beautiful limnobium shoot-bearing tolerates short-term shading quite well. Saturated color of leaf blades, along with the best indicators of their development, allows you to achieve good sunlight. However, direct sunlight should be avoided. And for the organization of artificial lighting, it is permissible to use only fluorescent lamps. For each square decimeter of the water surface, their power should be at least 2 watts. And incandescent lamps are definitely not suitable, as they can easily provoke a burn of the leaves of the limnobium sprigate. However, if, nevertheless, other lamps are not available, it is better to take several low-power incandescent lamps at once and evenly disperse them over the entire water surface. The duration of daylight hours, ensuring the comfort of this plant, should be at least twelve hours.

Reproduction of the shoot limnobium occurs with the help of young plants forming at the tips of its lateral shoots. It is only permissible to separate such plants only after root lobes and at least three leaves are formed on them.

In general, limnobium shoot-bearing is very unpretentious to the conditions of keeping. Its thickets should be thinned out periodically. If you systematically change the water in the aquarium (in the amount of about 20%, weekly or at least once every two weeks), then mineral feeding will not be necessary. Also, when growing this handsome man, it is very important not to allow water bloom and the formation of even tiny colonies of algae on glass, on the ground and on plant leaves.
