Escaping limnobium (lat. Limnobium laevigatum) - a floating plant belonging to the Vodokrasovye family.

Description

Escaping limnobium is an aquatic plant, the glossy leaves of which reach three centimeters in diameter and sit on short stalks. All leaves are heart-shaped and assembled into small rosettes containing five to six leaves each. And the color of the leaves can vary from a faint pale greenish to olive green. The roots of the limnobium shoot never touch the bottom, even though their length can reach thirty centimeters.

The inflorescences of this plant are umbrella-shaped, and all flowers are endowed with greenish-whitish or yellowish perianths. The spherical or wide-ellipsoid fruits of the limnobium shoot-bearing when ripe open incorrectly. By the way, they can be either smooth or ribbed, and contain spiny elliptical seeds.

Where grows

The habitat of limnobium escaping is the subtropical and tropical regions of North and South America.

Usage

In our latitudes, limnobium sprouting is actively used in aquariums, while it performs not only a decorative function, but also a shading function. In addition, this plant is famous for its ability to purify water from a wide variety of impurities - its fibrous roots perfectly cleanse reservoirs from turbidity.

Growing and caring

In artificial conditions, limnobium escaping grows excellently throughout all seasons. At the same time, it adapts quite well to a very solid range of temperatures - the shoot limnobium grows and multiplies equally well both at thirty degrees and at twenty. This feature makes it possible to grow this aquatic beauty in both moderately warm and tropical aquariums. But if the temperature drops below twenty degrees, the growth of a beautiful plant will instantly slow down, and it itself may slightly decrease in size.

The most preferred option for keeping limnobium sprouting will be open aquariums - it is characterized by increased sensitivity to condensation accumulating on aquarium lids.

The most suitable water hardness will be from ten to twelve degrees, and the active reaction of the aquatic environment in this case does not play a special role.

In order for limnobium escaping to fully grow and develop, it needs rather intense lighting. True, this plant also tolerates short-term shading quite well. If you want to achieve a rich color of leaf blades, you need to provide a beautiful plant with good sunlight (but without direct sunlight). And when organizing artificial lighting, it is allowed to use only fluorescent lamps, the power of which per square decimeter must be at least 2 watts. As for incandescent lamps, it is strongly discouraged to use them, as they can easily provoke leaf burns. If there are simply no other lamps available, then in the most extreme case, you can take several low-power incandescent lamps and distribute them evenly over the water surface. The minimum duration of daylight hours for limnobium escaping is twelve hours.

This plant propagates by young shoots forming at the tips of its lateral shoots. Only they can be separated only after the lobes of the roots and at least three leaves appear on them.

In general, the shoot limnobium is a very unpretentious plant. The main thing is not to forget to regularly thin out its thickets.
