How to store pears correctly. Part 1

Almost everyone loves juicy and tasty pears. Every summer resident dreams of preserving these healthy fruits as long as possible, so that at any time of the year you can enjoy a fresh fragrant pear. However, this task is within the power of everyone, the most important thing is to know the basic rules for storing these amazing fruits and to correctly select varieties for their long-term storage

How different varieties of pears are stored

The storage duration of the harvested pears is largely influenced by their varieties. For example, for long-term preservation of fresh fruit, it is better to take exclusively winter varieties. And from trees such pears need to be picked unripe - they usually ripen during the storage period. This measure helps to prevent their early decay and spoilage.

In order for juicy pears to last longer, they need to be properly prepared. When harvesting, it is extremely important to pay attention to the integrity of these juicy fruits - only intact and whole pears last longer. If they have any damage (even the most insignificant), then the fruits quickly begin to rot, provoking a quick decay of the neighboring fruits.

As for summer pears, they can only be stored for a long time in dried form. Keep dried pears in cool, dark places. Ideally, they are pre-placed in clean linen bags that you can sew on your own.

Pears are considered ready for harvesting as soon as they become lighter and slightly yellowish. However, at the same time, they must remain firm - soft fruits cannot be stored for a long time.

Where to store

The most suitable places for storing pears are cellars with basements. However, any other cool and sufficiently dark rooms (for example, cold storage rooms, spacious closets, as well as unheated rooms) are suitable for this. In addition to the fact that any place intended for storing pears must certainly be darkened and rather cool, it must still be free of mold and various foreign odors. And the walls in such rooms must always be clean and dry. Of course, they need to constantly maintain optimal humidity with temperature.

Storage temperature

To preserve pears at home, a certain temperature regime must be observed, which helps to prevent pears from rotting and their premature deterioration. The most suitable temperature is considered to be two to three degrees. And the humidity should be kept within at least 85%.

If the temperature is too high and the humidity is excessive, juicy fruits will quickly rot. If the temperature is very low, and the air is dry, the fruits will begin to rapidly lose moisture, lose their juiciness and gradually wrinkle.

It is recommended to install a thermometer in the room where juicy pears are stored. And you can regulate the temperature in it with a fan. If the humidity in the storage area is too high, the room should be ventilated as much as possible. In addition, cups with sulfuric acid placed in the storage area help to overcome excessive dampness.

It is important to try to prepare the place intended for storing pears in advance. First, it should be thoroughly cleaned and thoroughly disinfected, and then thoroughly ventilated. And only then can the pears be sent for storage.

For the purpose of disinfection, rooms intended for storing fruits are often fumigated with sulfur vapors - braziers with hot coals are placed in the corners, on which a thin layer of sulfur powder is poured. To prevent sulfur fumes from harming anyone, it is recommended to close the room for several days. Then the braziers are taken away, and the rooms are thoroughly ventilated. And after a while, you can safely lay pears in the store.
