Dymyanka (lat. Fumaria) - a small genus of plants in the Poppy family. The genus got its name due to its peculiarity, namely, the unusual smoky smell of the roots. Representatives of the genus belong to medicinal plants, they are used in alternative medicine, especially often in the fight against skin diseases and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In nature, they are found in European countries, North America, North Africa. Several species grow wild in the Russian Federation.

Characteristics of culture

Dymyanka is represented by annual herbaceous plants endowed with erect or creeping stems, covered with double or triple pinnately dissected foliage that does not have petioles. The flowers are crowned with scarious narrow bracts, ovoid sepals, which fall off very quickly. Corollas are white, lilac or pink, bearing only two petals, one of which has a spur. Flowers are collected in simple racemose inflorescences. Pods are represented by spherical nuts.

The most common species that grows in Russia is medicinal smoke. The second name is pharmacy smoke. Most often it is found in wastelands. This alone does not negate the decorative properties of the plant. It is suitable for decorating personal, rustic-style homesteads. The plants do not exceed 50 cm in height. Flowering occurs in early - mid-June and continues until the onset of frost.

How to procure raw materials

For medicinal purposes, only the aerial part of the smokehouse is used - flowers, stems, foliage. Collection and procurement is carried out in June and July. Drying is carried out in a dry and well-ventilated room, spreading out evenly on a flat surface or hanging it down with inflorescences. It is very important to periodically turn the raw material, otherwise it will become moldy. Drying in professional dryers at a temperature of 45-50C is not prohibited. Raw materials can be stored in cardboard boxes and paper bags closed, but no more than 12 months.
