Description of field mustard

Field mustard is also popularly known under the following names: ferocity, sviripitsa, colza, ferocious, sviripa, wild radish, svebiguzka and sverbeika. Field mustard is an annual herb, the height of which varies between ten and one hundred centimeters. The stem of this plant is covered with protruding stiff hairs, such a stem is branched and in the axils of the branches it will be endowed with reddish spots. The leaves of this plant are ovoid and irregularly toothed, and the lower leaves can sometimes be lyre-shaped. Field mustard flowers are painted in gray-yellow tones. The calyx is four-leafed, there are only four petals and they are arranged crosswise. There are only six stamens, of which two stamens will be shorter than all the others. The fruit is an almost cylindrical pod, the nose of which is tetrahedral, and the valves are endowed with three to five longitudinal veins.

Under natural conditions, field mustard can be found on the territory of the European part of Russia, in Western and Eastern Siberia, in the Arctic, in the Far East, in the Crimea and Belarus, in the Caucasus and Ukraine, in Moldova and Central Asia. For growth, this plant prefers places in crops and near roads, as well as in vegetable gardens and wastelands. It should be noted that field mustard is a rather valuable melliferous plant, and during the fruiting period, special care should be taken when handling this plant, which is due to the fact that it acquires toxicity. Most often, this plant will grow as a weed.

Description of the medicinal properties of field mustard

Field mustard is endowed with quite valuable medicinal properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the seeds of this plant. The presence of such valuable medicinal properties is explained by the content of flavonoids in the plant, and at the same time steroids and fatty oil were found in the seeds of field mustard.

A broth prepared on the basis of field mustard seeds is recommended for use in scurvy and urolithiasis. Young shoots, as well as the leaves of this plant, are endowed with a rather pleasant taste, and therefore both shoots and leaves are perfectly acceptable to use in food as either a seasoning or a salad. It should be noted that quite often in the spring, fresh leaves of this plant are boiled, thereby replacing cabbage. Since ancient times, crushed seed mixed with vinegar has been used as a very effective remedy for fighting scurvy. It is important to remember that the fatty oil of this plant is suitable not only for technical purposes, but also as an edible oil.

In case of urolithiasis, it is recommended to prepare the following remedy, which is endowed with a rather high degree of effectiveness: for its preparation, you will need to take one teaspoon of field mustard seeds for about one glass of water. the resulting mixture should be boiled over low heat for five to six minutes, after which such a mixture is left to infuse for two hours, and then filtered very carefully. In order for the remedy to be effective, one should observe not only all the conditions of preparation, but also all the rules of admission. Such a remedy is recommended to be used one or two tablespoons three times a day, in this case, this remedy will help to cope with urolithiasis.
