Bacopa quite unpretentious in care and belongs to the family called Norichnikovye. The homeland of the plant is South Africa and the Canary Islands. Also, this plant can be found under the name of sutera. The flower can creep along the ground cover, acquiring the form of a ground cover and rooting at the same time in each node.
In culture, this flower has been known only since 1993. The flower is endowed with excellent properties and is capable of very long flowering, and can also independently free itself from already wilted flowers. It is important to note that even in conditions of prolonged rains, this flower will not lose all its wonderful decorative properties.
Bacopa care
It is worth noting that Bacopa is quite light-requiring, but the plant is able to withstand even slight shading. However, under the condition of insufficient lighting, the shoots of the plant will stretch, which will lead to an increase in the length of internodes, and the flowering itself may not only become less intense, but also completely stop.
If the cultivation of bacopa takes place in containers, then slightly acidic soil mixtures are preferable, which will consist of two parts of humus and sand, as well as one part of peat and leafy soil. If bacopa is grown in a garden, then for normal development the plant will need a mixture obtained from earth and peat in equal proportions.
It is very important to remember that Bacopa is a moisture-loving plant. Therefore, it is necessary to water the plant especially intensively during the period of active growth, which is largely related to very hot and dry periods when it comes to growing bacopa in the garden.
Approximately once every ten days, fertilizing should be carried out with the help of mineral and organic fertilizers, which must be alternated with each other. The use of such dressings will help to give the leaves brighter and more saturated colors. In order to ensure a more intensive and high-quality formation of lateral shoots, it will be necessary to regularly pinch the growth points of the main shoots. In winter, it is recommended to reduce watering or even limit it altogether, while the bacopes should be kept in a fairly bright room, the temperature regime in which will be about eight to fifteen degrees Celsius.
Reproduction of bacopa
Bacopa propagates through seeds or through cuttings. Seeds should be sown for seedlings already in March, while the seeds should be lightly pressed against an airtight and moist, loose soil. In this form, the seeds should be kept at a temperature that should not be below eighteen degrees, as well as in conditions of high humidity. It is worth noting that in this case, the optimal temperature for seeds will be twenty to twenty three degrees. Already after about ten to fourteen days, subject to the necessary conditions, the first shoots will appear.
After the formation of one or two leaves, it is necessary to make the first pick. Plants should be placed in boxes, where there will be a distance of about two centimeters between each of them. It is recommended to feed with low concentration fertilizers, and the temperature of growing plants should be between twenty-two and twenty-six degrees Celsius. Then the next pick is also made, this time choosing separate pots, where there should be one knot deepening so that the bacopa could grow more steadily. After such a pick, top dressing with ordinary mineral fertilizers is already available, while they should contain a fairly impressive amount of nitrogen and phosphorus. Plants are also recommended to be hardened: during the day the thermometer should not rise above twenty-four degrees, and at night the temperature regime of thirteen to fifteen degrees will be ideal.
