The Guadalupe naiad, also called the toothed naiad, is considered one of the most persistent and unpretentious aquatic plants. In nature, this beauty is found mainly in American waters. It also takes root well in aquariums, where it is often used as a background for other aquatic plants endowed with large leaves, placing a wonderful aquatic beauty in the background

Getting to know the plant

Naiad Guadalupe is a fancifully branching thin stems that grow in length up to one meter. On the stems, juicy leaves are located in pairs. By the way, they can grow not only in pairs, but also in three. All leaves are oblong and equipped with tiny spines at the edges. They are usually two centimeters wide and four centimeters long.

The color of the Guadalupe naiad can vary depending on the level of illumination from rich and rich green to light reddish tones.

In aquariums, the Guadalupe naiad is often used as a substrate for spawning of various aquarium fish. And she is also endowed with the ability to influence the metabolic processes taking place in the aquarium, thereby providing excellent preparation of the aquatic environment for accommodating other green pets. Thanks to the amazing properties of the Guadalupe naiads, aquarium fish receive a fairly decent amount of vital oxygen for them.

How to grow

The Guadalupe naiad grows very evenly throughout all seasons. This aquatic inhabitant has an amazing ability to withstand a fairly substantial range of temperatures - from eighteen to thirty degrees, so it will grow equally well not only in moderately warm, but also in luxurious tropical aquariums.

Water hardness, in principle, like its active reaction, does not play a significant role for the comfortable keeping of the Guadalupe naiad. This aquatic inhabitant needs a water change three or four times a month. And periodically falling leaves of the plant should be removed immediately to avoid contamination of the aquarium.

This green pet does not require special soil, since the root system of the wonderful Guadalupe naiad is rather weak, and it absorbs all kinds of nutritious compounds with its entire surface. In addition, it can grow even without rooting at all - the weak root system when planting the Guadalupe naiad in the ground mainly serves only to fix it. By the way, there is no need to feed a beautiful green pet either.

In order for the Guadalupe naiad to please with picturesque thickets, the lighting should be as strong as possible. Of course, it will develop and grow even with very long shading, but it will look less impressive. To create artificial light, it is possible to combine popular fluorescent lamps with standard incandescent lamps. And the duration of daylight hours is seriously influenced by the intensity and nature of the lighting.

Vegetative propagation of the Guadalupe naiad occurs by cuttings. In the content, it is very unpretentious, which cannot but please aquarists, especially beginners. It is noteworthy that some of them sometimes consider this beauty a weed, since it is very tenacious, even despite its fragility. If you try to remove it from the aquarium, the Guadalupe naiad will begin to break, however, every (even the smallest) piece of its stem will form intensively developing new shoots.

It is also important to know that for aquariums in which herbivorous fish live, the Guadalupe naiad is hardly suitable - a cute nimble living creature bites its luxurious bushes with great pleasure.
