Lagenandra Meebolda is a luxurious inhabitant of the reservoirs of Southeast Asia. Most often it can be found in swampy conditions. This aquatic beauty also feels great in aquariums, however, it should be placed in them only in a semi-underwater state - it tolerates flooding quite well for several months, but this green pet will not be able to constantly grow under water. But in aquariums, the amazing Lagenandra Meebolda can easily bring to life the most daring design decisions
Getting to know the plant
Lagenandra Meebolda is endowed with creeping rhizomes of a very impressive length. Its oval and alternately arranged leaves are distinguished by a very beautiful shape and are painted in olive-greenish tones with a pleasant purple hue. The surface of the leaves is velvety and very pleasant to the touch, and their tops are strongly pointed. The leaflets are about twenty centimeters long and about eight wide.
Fleshy and rather thick leaf petioles grow up to ten to fifteen centimeters in length. And the total height of Lagenandra Meebold reaches from fifteen to thirty centimeters. As for the peduncles of the bizarre aquatic inhabitant, they are always exclusively above-water.
How to grow
Lagenandra Meebolda is a marsh plant, so it will be ideal to grow this aquatic beauty in paludarium conditions. However, the aquarium conditions will be more than suitable for her. However, when growing it in aquariums, it is important to consider that it can grow completely submerged under water for a relatively short time - only the first few months. After this time, the growth of the aquatic beauty usually stops. So the most optimal regime for keeping the beautiful Lagenandra Meebold is considered to be a semi-underwater state.
The best temperature regime for keeping an unusual aquatic inhabitant is considered to be the temperature range from twenty-four to thirty degrees. If the thermometer begins to drop lower, then the growth of Meebold's Lagenander will greatly slow down or completely stop altogether.
To plant a spectacular water beauty, you need a soil enriched with nutrients. The best option is a mixture of sod land with humus, peat and sand.
The lighting for the light-loving Lagenandra Meebold is preferably bright. Diffused sunlight is considered ideal. And additional artificial lighting can be made combined by combining incandescent lamps with well-known fluorescent lamps. In this case, the distance from the aquarium to each lamp should be approximately twenty five to thirty centimeters. Regarding the duration of daylight hours, you can see that it should be at least equal to twelve hours a day.
Reproduction of Lagenandra Meebold away from natural conditions occurs vegetatively, with the help of tiny daughter processes forming on the rhizomes. It is allowed to separate young processes and transplant them to a new place only after root lobes and at least three leaves are formed on them. Connoisseurs often transplant young specimens into pots, which they then try to fill with water in such a way that the leaves of an unusual water beauty rise above the surface.
Perhaps it is really best to keep Meebold's Lagenander in individual pots. First, a little pebbles are poured onto their bottoms, then a layer of pebbles is replaced by a layer of clay with sand, and a good soddy earth is laid on top with a thin layer. The roots of the moisture-loving beauty are placed in this layer, and then more pebbles with sand are poured on top, and this must be done so that the rhizomes fit entirely into this top layer of soil. And only after that pots with Meebold's Lagenandra are installed on the side shelves of impressive aquariums so that the leaves of the wondrous beauty are directly above the water, and the water only covers the ground. In this form, the extraordinary green pet will grow well throughout the year. And in order to create high air humidity, the aquarium can be tightly covered with a cap on top.
