It turns out that a real dry closet and what many are used to calling this word are far from the same thing. It is often confused with a chemical toilet. How to distinguish between similar designs? And which one is better to choose for a summer residence?

The well-known street cabins in public places that work autonomously, without being connected to the sewage system, are, as a rule, not dry closets, but chemical toilets. Human waste products decompose in such containers under the influence of special chemicals, turning into a homogeneous mass that is harmless to the environment (this is according to the manufacturers of these chemicals). Then, as the containers are filled, this waste is disposed of - and the toilet is again ready for use.

These are common areas, the so-called public toilets, although such a booth, if desired, can be installed in the country. But there are more compact and mobile versions of stand-alone toilets. Small, portable products are produced in two types: dry closets and chemical toilets. Let's try to figure out where it is advisable to use one or the other …

Dry closets

Waste products in such models are processed using only natural components (peat, sawdust, peat-containing fillers). Such toilets are also called composting toilets, because they work on the principle of natural composting of biological waste with the removal of gaseous products of aerobic decomposition through a ventilation pipe. In this case, liquid fractions are discharged through special drain pipes.

For any composting type composting toilet, ventilation is necessary, otherwise unpleasant odors will penetrate into the room where this structure is located. In addition, a necessary condition is the withdrawal of liquid fractions and the availability of a place for their collection and disposal.

The principle of functioning of a peat toilet is simple to genius: peat filler is poured onto the bottom of the receiving tank (the bottom is covered) and poured into the upper container. After each use of the toilet, it is necessary to add peat or sawdust to the storage tank by turning the handle.

As it accumulates, the tank is emptied, pouring its contents into a compost pit or another place specially designed for waste disposal. You can use this fraction in the form of fertilizer no earlier than a year or two after it is in the compost pit. Thus, a dry closet is a device that is convenient and, most importantly, advisable to use in the country or in a country house. That is, where it is possible to organize ventilation, and turn the drain of liquid and waste products into compost.

Chemical toilets

Chemical toilets are another matter. This device is more urban than dacha. After all, the processing of fecal masses using chemistry already implies the inadmissibility of the subsequent use of the resulting substance in the form of fertilizer. It should be disposed of in the sewer or in a specially designated place (drain pit, for example), located away from the beds and wells.

Generally, chemical toilets (with the exception of public ones) can be used in a variety of life situations. For example, for people with disabilities who find it difficult to get to the toilet without assistance, or when traveling to nature … The sellers of this product even believe that it can be used in a small retail space such as a shop or exchange office.

The appearance of chemical toilets is somewhat different from the appearance of dry closets. For the functioning of chemical devices, first of all, water is needed for flushing, therefore such a toilet consists of two containers (two tanks). The lower tank is designed for collection, storage and processing of waste, and the upper one contains water for flushing.

Portability of chemical toilets

Chemical toilet constructions are also called portable because of their ease of movement. But there are also toilets with tanks up to 24 liters! It's not very easy to transfer this. Therefore, when buying, you need not only to take into account the number of potential users of this device, but also the strength of the hands serving it and, accordingly, purchase a toilet with a small volume of a drain tank. It is better to pour out the contents more often than to carry heavy weights.

When choosing a chemical toilet, it is important to pay attention to the flush pump. They are in these toilets are electric (batteries), piston pumps and pumps. Each has its own pros and cons. You need to select them according to your requirements for this device.

The topic of portable, country, tourist and other wonderful toilets that make our life more comfortable and pleasant can be continued indefinitely. For example, there is also this type of dry closets, which are called waterless … But this is a completely different story.
