Greenhouses and greenhouses are our faithful assistants in summer cottages and personal plots. While the ground in the open ground is just warming up, the work in the protected ground is already in full swing. And what is not only under the film: cucumbers, and tomatoes, and radish ripens. Each vegetable has its own nuances of cultivation, but there are some general rules for caring for plants in greenhouses. Let's remember the main ones before the new sowing season
Temperature regime
Seedlings of some plants settle in greenhouses long before the onset of warm spring days. And if in the daytime, in the light of the sun, a greenhouse is able to create a special microclimate independent of the street weather and maintain warmth inside, then at night it can no longer cope with this task without shelter.
Therefore, in the winter months and early spring, gentle unhardened seedlings, even in protected ground, require additional insulation. Straw mats are great helpers in this. With the onset of dusk, they are placed on greenhouse frames, and in the morning they are removed without fail - the plant needs sun and long daylight hours.
The importance of airing
Ventilation of greenhouses also helps to maintain a constant temperature at the required level. Temperature fluctuations inside more than 5 ° should not be allowed. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the reaction of seedlings to heat and cold. If the temperature is too high, the seedlings are pulled out and their quality is reduced. At temperatures much lower than favorable, plant growth is inhibited.
So that during ventilation the air circulates freely, high supports with adjustable height are made for the frames. They are placed on the leeward side so that the wind and drafts do not blow on the seedlings.
In early spring, the frames are closed before dusk, so that the greenhouse has time to accumulate heat for the night and the seedlings do not freeze. With the arrival of warmer, stable weather, to harden the seedlings, the frames are removed for the whole day.
Why "tint" glass
Airing does not always cope with the temperature drop inside the greenhouse, when the sun shines strongly on the glass frames for a long time. In such cases, shading is used. It is also useful for plants that require diffused light, such as cucumbers. It is also necessary after picking and transplanting, while the plant takes root in a new place.
Shading is done with curtains. They can be replaced by a kind of "toning" of glass frames - spraying with chalk dissolved in water.
Watering and moisture levels
Different vegetables have different moisture requirements. The plants in the greenhouse have one thing in common - the sown seeds, like the recently dived seedlings that did not have time to take root well, need to be watered from a watering can with small holes that disperse the flow of water well.
It is necessary to monitor the level of humidity in the greenhouse. In dry air, the plants wither and dry, therefore, spraying is performed around the seedlings. Just do not overdo it, as high humidity creates favorable conditions for the occurrence of fungus. Watering and spraying is carried out with settled water at room temperature.
When to apply top dressing
Depending on the growth rate of seedlings in greenhouses, fertilizers are applied every 7-10 days. To do this, use:
* ammonium nitrate;
* a mixture of potassium salt, ammonium nitrate and superphosphate;
* mineral fertilizers - nitrophosphate or ammophoska;
* aqueous solution of slurry.
Seedlings of root celery, cabbage varieties, onions, planted on a peat soil mixture, begin to feed 15-20 days after picking. Vegetables grown without picking are fed for the first time in the 4th week.
That's all the general rules for caring for plants in greenhouses. Knowing them, you will save yourself from many troubles in the process of growing seedlings.
