In order for the Bulgarian pepper in the open field to please the owner of the personal plot with its development and productivity, the gardener will have to work hard. After all, there are no insignificant trifles in this matter. Everything is important here: the pre-planting soil preparation, and the quality of seedlings, and the care of plants in the beds
Site preparation for planting bell pepper
Pepper is not recommended to be cultivated after other types of nightshade. This means that the beds for him cannot be arranged after tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants. If they were affected by late blight or apical rot, the disease will not escape the planting of pepper.
When choosing a place for planting, you need to take into account the special requirements of the vegetable pepper. And he needs warmth, good illumination and the absence of drafts. Therefore, it is best to break up beds for growing peppers in the open field not far from low outbuildings on the south side.
Vegetable peppers need a well-fertilized soil. On the selected site, you will need to apply such fertilizers at the rate of 1 square meter. garden area:
• ammonium nitrate - 50 g;
• superphosphate - 60 g;
• potassium sulfate - 40 g;
• humus - 5 kg.
It will be useful to disinfect the site with a solution of copper sulfate before planting seedlings.
Conditions for bell pepper in the beds
Bell peppers grow well in tall beds. The plant cannot be planted in cold ground, and such an embankment about 30 cm high will warm up well faster. The row spacing is made at least 50 cm wide, and in the row between the holes for planting plants, a distance of about 30 cm is left.
Hardened seedlings should be planted in open ground. If the weather forecast warns of a significant drop in air temperature, you need to keep a film shelter ready in order to have time to protect the landings. At the same time, one must not forget to remove the film when a steady heat is established, otherwise the ovaries will not appear on the plant.
Before planting, the holes need to be watered. Seedlings are buried in the ground to the first true leaves. After this, it is advisable to mulch the beds. Suitable raw materials for this will be humus, straw, sawdust.
If, after planting, the sun begins to scorch strongly, the seedlings will need to be shaded. The material for this will be plywood, slate sheets. For tall varieties, you need to prepare pegs to make a garter when the bushes are very much moved into growth.
Watering and feeding vegetables
Pepper is very hygrophilous. The method of watering plants is at the root. Sprinkling technology can only do harm. For watering the garden, it is advised to choose the evening or early morning hours, and the water should be warm.
Watering volumes differ at different stages of plant development. In the first half of summer, less water is consumed, and from mid-July, the bushes will need more abundant moisture in the soil. On average, 1 sq. M. the water consumption will be about 10-12 liters at a time. Watering is carried out twice a week, in a dry hot summer - more often.
During the entire growing season, it is required to maintain the soil under the peppers in a sufficiently loose state. When the soil is covered with a crust under the plants, it interferes with the high-quality moisture of the beds. In addition, mulching helps prevent rapid evaporation of moisture from the soil.
2 weeks after planting the plants in open ground, the first feeding should be done. The following substances are used per 10 liters of water:
• ammonium nitrate - 10 g;
• superphosphate - 15 g;
• potassium sulfate - 20 g.
This dose is enough to fertilize about 10 bushes. The second feeding is carried out when ovaries appear on the bushes, the third - during the fruiting period. Organic fertilizer is a good help for the gardener. Peppers respond well to slurry feeding. And during the formation of ovaries, it is useful to use wood ash.
