Pepper in the open field
The key to a rich harvest is proper agricultural technology. So that efforts are not wasted, you need to have basic knowledge of the cultivation of pepper and apply it in practice. In the absence of a greenhouse, this crop can be perfectly grown in an open garden.
The problem of a short summer in the middle lane and a long growing season of pepper is solved using the seedling method of growing. It is better to choose the garden, the one where cucumbers, pumpkins, legumes, cabbage or root vegetables grew in the past. Planting after tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant is not recommended.
Not every gardener dares to grow pepper on the street, although with skillful care, difficulties do not arise. The main factor for successful cultivation is not only the fertility of the land, but also its moisture. Consider the features of watering pepper in a street garden.
The soil must be able to retain moisture and be well fertilized. Pepper care does not differ from the "greenhouse option", the same techniques: loosening, weeding, feeding, but watering has its own characteristics.
Rules for watering pepper in the open field
Everyone knows the heat and moisture content of pepper, so much attention is paid to watering the beds. It is important to distinguish the difference between wet and over-flooded soil. Waterlogging is harmful: pests appear, viral diseases and decay processes begin.
Long-term drying out of the soil is completely excluded, since this deprives the crop, stops growth and can destroy the plant. With prolonged "thirst" the trunk of the pepper begins to stiffen. This is a dangerous line, which cannot be approached, since the structure of the stem changes, metabolic processes are disrupted. The plant not only stops growing, but also the ovaries, leaves fall, the existing fruits wither.
Outdoor watering is directly dependent on the weather. With regular light rains, the flow rate is reduced. Daily heavy rainfall is a signal for a complete stop of irrigation activities before drying out and normalization of the state of the earth.
Loosening
An important point is additional loosening. The specificity of cultivation in open beds is the fight against the resulting crust on the soil. This process is especially noticeable in windy weather. The resulting "crust" prevents absorption, the water rolls down, goes to unnecessary places - as a result, the roots of the bush are left without a sufficient amount of moisture. Loosening is carried out before each watering.
Water temperature
Under normal conditions, it is recommended to spill the beds in the early morning using warm water. For this, experienced gardeners use containers located in greenhouses, where the water is always warmer than outside. In any case, water below +20 is not used. Ideal, which peppers love: + 25 … + 30C. If the weather is good with night modes from +20, then watering can be done in the evening. This option allows you to use barrel water that has warmed up well during the day.
One-sided watering
Experts recommend using the one-sided watering method for peppers. In this case, the plant is always guaranteed to receive its dose of moisture. This technique is quite simple: one side of the bed with peppers is "pulled through" and watering takes place over the treated area. Next time change sides and repeat the procedure.
Pepper development phases and watering
At the time of planting seedlings in the ground, strong moisture is made, which is enough for 5-10 days. The first real watering is not done on wet ground. The plant takes root, gets sick and does not need extra water. In the flooded earth, the roots are deprived of the ability to breathe, and the process of survival is delayed, and it may not end - the seedling will die. Watering is relevant after the soil dries up by 5-7 cm, for this, after 4-5 days, from the moment of planting, loosening is carried out.
Before flowering, the regularity of watering is maintained once a week, in windy, hot weather more often - perhaps up to two times. Displacement is calculated at 10-12 liters per sq. meter. When mass flowering occurs, the watering technique is reduced exclusively to the root, so as not to knock down the pollen and interfere with the setting process. In normal weather, the watering cycle is close to three or two waterings per week. At this time, the bushes have grown and require more moisture - the dose is increased by 12-14 liters per m2.
Often summer residents visit their property only on weekends. In this case, you should proceed as follows: the strait passes two days in a row at 10 l / m2. A total of 20 liters of water is given, which will last for a week until the next visit. With the beginning of the period of active pouring of fruits, watering is stopped for 7-10 days, which will serve as a new wave of flowering. After the buds appear, the frequency of watering resumes and continues in the same mode.
Important information
Remember that peppers are afraid of cold water! It is strictly forbidden to water the beds with this plant with water from a well, a water supply system, a well! Use well-heated water or add boiling water to the watering can if necessary. Try to adhere to the temperature limit of +25.
