Strawberry jaundice is also called mosaic or xanthosis. This disease is caused by tiny particles of a living protein substance - a virus that lives and develops exclusively in the cells of living organisms. Sick strawberry bushes look very depressed, moreover, their fruiting sharply decreases. It is imperative to fight such ailment, otherwise you can lose a significant part of the fragrant ripe berries
A few words about the disease
When infected with jaundice, strawberry leaves acquire a mosaic color and yellow spots begin to form on them. As the disease develops, the leaves subsequently turn yellow entirely, since the spots grow and merge rather quickly. In this case, necrotic lesions are absent. Cuttings of strawberry leaves are noticeably shortened, and smaller leaf blades can bend down along the main veins. Peduncles are also greatly shortened. Very few berries are formed on infected bushes, and, as a rule, they do not have a pleasant taste.
The spread of the ill-fated virus occurs with the help of herbivorous mites, sucking insects (in particular, aphids) and infected planting material (antennae). Also, infection can occur through the sap of infected plants and when pruning both diseased and healthy crops with the absence of intermediate disinfection of garden tools. The disease may well be transmitted by vegetative reproduction. The most striking manifestation of signs of xanthosis can be observed in autumn and early spring.
The development of the disease is influenced by a number of factors - the type of virus strain, the resistance of a particular strawberry variety, soil conditions, as well as fluctuations in humidity and temperature throughout the growing season. If the strain is rather weak, then the damage can be noticed only in autumn, and with its strong variety, the lesions of the leaves are clearly visible already in June.
It should be noted that yellowed leaves do not always indicate the presence of xanthosis. At the edges and between the veins, they can turn yellow even with a lack of iron in the soil. However, in this situation, most of the plants will turn yellow.
How to fight
Unfortunately, viral ailments are virtually untreatable. Bushes showing signs of jaundice should be uprooted and burned.
Basically, measures to combat strawberry jaundice are primarily preventive in nature. For planting, only healthy planting material should be used and quarantine measures should be observed. Periodically, under the strawberries, in accordance with agricultural rules, it is necessary to apply various potash-phosphorus fertilizers.
In autumn and early spring, it is imperative to inspect strawberry plantings in order to identify xanthosis. It should be noted that the most susceptible to this ailment are such strawberry varieties as Royal Soverein, Roshchinskaya, Marshall, Krasavitsa Zagorya. Among the resistant varieties, the following can be noted: Seedling Shayna, Redglaw, Kokinskaya early, Zenga prekozana and Grenadir. And such varieties as Purple, Festivalnaya, Talisman, Idun and Zenga-Zengana are very weakly affected by xanthosis.
In order to limit the spread of such an unpleasant disease, it is necessary to timely process the vegetation against sucking insects, actively fight aphids and leafhoppers. It is equally important to regularly get rid of wild and weed plants on the roadsides and in the aisles of the garden. Also, strawberry plantings should be removed at a decent distance from the clover plantings.
Cicadas and aphids are fought by spraying strawberry bushes before they bloom, as well as at the end of the harvest with Karbofos (75 g) and infusions of various insecticides. You can use "Kilzar" (50 g) or "Permethrin" (25 g). All spraying must be stopped one month before harvest.
In order to destroy the eggs of insects carrying viruses, it is advised to spray the vegetation and soil under the bushes with nitrafen in early spring (1.5%).

Ways To Deal With Strawberry Mites
The strawberry (transparent) mite very badly damages young strawberry and strawberry leaves, which subsequently turn yellow and, wrinkling, begin to gradually die off. As a result, the plants take on a dwarf appearance, and the strawberries so beloved by many cease to delight with a magnificent harvest of ripe and juicy berries. If bushes with wrinkled small leaves of a yellowish-oily shade appear on the site - it's time to start fighting the strawberry mite
How To Deal With The Strawberry Leaf Beetle
The strawberry leaf beetle, which lives almost everywhere, damages wild and cultivated strawberries, as well as a number of shrubs and herbaceous plants representing the Rosanny family (meadowsweet, gravilat, cinquefoil goose, etc.). Berry bushes damaged by a strawberry leaf beetle are easy to distinguish from healthy ones: the leaves on them are dotted with a huge number of small holes, and tiny berries stop developing. Damaged bushes dry up, eventually die, and almost all plants
Greening Strawberry And Strawberry Petals
Greening of petals affects not only strawberries with strawberries, but also asters with clovers, plantains, petunias, phloxes and dandelions. Often, the causative agent of the disease even persists on them. The lifespan of infected bushes is very short - a maximum of two years. Such bushes freeze easily in winter, and are also extremely sensitive to almost any unfavorable climatic conditions. And the harvest from most of the petals of berry bushes affected by greening does not come at all
