Vegetable protein predominates in legumes, so their fruits are included in programs for health improvement and weight loss. Consider how to grow peas and beans ourselves in the country
Nutritionists and physicians focus on the benefits of beans, beans, lentils, chickpeas, peas. When included in the diet, they provide satiety, reduce the level of bad cholesterol, and get rid of excess weight. When grown in a garden, legumes saturate the soil with nitrogen, improve the condition of the soil, "work" in the form of green manure.
Legumes are divided into vegetable, decorative and medicinal types. Let's review the vegetable crops that can be grown at their summer cottage.
Peas
The pod plucked from the garden contains tender, juicy, sweet fruits. It is impossible to buy such a product. Self-cultivation does not require a lot of space, special agrotechnical techniques and knowledge.
Peas are a light-loving climbing plant. For landing, choose a sunny area protected from the wind. You can plant in the garden bed, along the fence, in any free space. Peas are not afraid of the cold, the shoots can withstand up to -4, germinate at + 4 … + 6. You can start sowing in spring after the final warming up of the soil.
When purchasing seeds, choose seed hybrids suitable for salads, side dishes, soups, homemade preparations, and raw consumption. Sugar varieties include Alpha, Ambrosia, Zhegalova-112. The best precursors for peas: bell peppers, potatoes, oats, eggplant, corn, tomatoes.
"Peas"
Sowing is carried out with soaked / sprouted kernels several times per season. The last planting of early ripening varieties is possible 2 months before frost. For peas, you need to make a support, without it, the stem falls to the ground, rots and does not give a crop.
The garter is carried out to any supports (PVC garden mesh, chain-link, stakes with stretched ropes, etc.). Formation helps to increase fees. Pinching the shoot at a height of 25 cm stimulates the development of lateral branches. The "operation" is carried out early in the morning, in dry weather.
Pea care consists of watering, weeding, removing ripe fruits. With timely collection of pods, the lash does not stop growing and gives new ovaries. Fruiting continues throughout the summer. The first fruits are harvested in 20-25 days after germination, early cerebral fruits in 18-22, on the shoulder blade - 10-12. In favorable conditions, peas produce 4 kg of fruit per sq. / M.
Beans
Vegetable beans are grown in open or closed ground. The culture is unpretentious, planted in beds or included in combined planting, in this case neighboring plants receive natural feeding in the form of nitrogen, which is produced by the roots of beans.
"Beans"
Vegetable varieties are divided into 2 categories: bush and curly. All of them are thermophilic, bear fruit well on light fertile soils and sunny places. The culture does not grow well on acidified and clayey soils. In comparison with peas, beans do not tolerate frosts, reacts poorly to waterlogged soil, the optimal temperature for growth is + 15 … + 25. In dry, hot climates (more than +30), it can shed ovaries.
Planting occurs at a time when the threat of frost has passed. At a depth of 5 cm, the ground should be warmed up (+ 12 … + 15). The best predecessors: potatoes, beets, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, cucumber. Bad pair: garlic, fennel, onion. Soaking the beans, accelerates germination, sprouts appear in 5-7 days.
Plants do not like thickening, the interval between rows is 50 cm, the seeds are buried 3-5 cm, 25 cm apart. For the nesting method, a step of 25 cm is made. Tall species (1, 5-2 m) need support, bush varieties (40-60 cm) do not need a garter. When purchasing seeds, you should decide on the type of beans. Can choose
• shelling, which is used in the form of dried seeds;
• asparagus - juicy and tasty;
• semi-sugar / pod for lovers of young pods.
Care consists of loosening, moderate watering, organic matter. I will list the varieties of vegetable beans that are resistant to diseases:
• bush early: Protva; Rachelle; Octave; Cinderella; Arishka;
• mid-season bush: Fantasy; Polka; Lika; Creole; Galepka.
