Strawberries are nothing more than garden strawberries, but under this name, few people know these delicious fruits. The secret of a good and incredibly tasty harvest lies in the proper care of the plant, while such care should be systematic
When growing strawberries, many problems can arise; pests and diseases can also attack. Correct and consistent care will help to avoid all this, or at least minimize harm and damage to the crop.
First of all, crop rotation should be strictly observed. Professionals do not recommend growing strawberries in the same place for more than four to five years. The ideal option is to plant a new bed every season, and remove it after five years.
Of course, many summer residents have been planting strawberries in one place for many years, some in this case are lucky, but some are not. Indeed, various pests can live in the soil for many years, which you do not even know about. Therefore, it would be best to still observe the crop rotation, and not listen to stories about how someone's strawberries have been growing beautifully for six years and invariably pleases with a juicy and tasty harvest.
Experts advise and periodically change strawberry varieties. This is due not only to curiosity, but also to the fact that over time, pathogens and pests can adapt to the immune profile of certain varieties. Actually, the variety itself in this case, as it were, is waiting for the appearance of pests or diseases. Changing strawberry varieties from time to time will help to avoid such a nuisance. This is not to say that every year you will have to plant a new variety and adapt to its care requirements. You can add just a few copies of the new variety, while not forgetting about the old ones that you already liked.
There are also so-called weedy varieties of strawberries. Some of them do not have the ability to bloom, while others can please their owner only with crooked berries of a small size, no matter how careful the care of the plant is. Such strawberries can be identified by a significant number of mustaches and by size: these varieties will be much larger than usual. Therefore, you should very carefully consider the beds with strawberries, and it is recommended to remove such lean plants in a timely manner. Indeed, otherwise, the bush can spread over a large area, thereby interfering with the development of its fertile and productive relatives.
A lot of attention should be paid to the seedlings themselves. Seedlings should be prepared during the period when you are harvesting. It is very important to remember that if there was only one large berry on a bush, then such a bush should not be used as seedlings. It is recommended to choose very fertile bushes for seedlings. Of course, you can buy plants, but many gardeners prefer to grow everything on their own, from seedlings.
As soon as a mustache appears on those plants that you have chosen as seedlings, you should immediately select the planting material. You should choose the most powerful sockets that extend from the mother bush. As for the rosettes of the following orders, then they will not produce strong bushes.
The maximum yield will be given by strawberries planted in July. The site should be very well lit, even the shade of a tree can rob you of a significant part of the harvest. Many gardeners choose areas where peas, radishes, onions, garlic, herbs or beans used to grow.
If the berries do not appear, then there may be several reasons. The absence of ovaries on some bushes indicates that this variety is weedy. The work of the weevil beetle can be recognized by the drying of the ovaries and pedicels. If there are few berries and they are small, then there was not enough pollination. This happens in those seasons when there were especially heavy rains. In addition, this can happen due to the lack of bees and bumblebees.
