It would seem the simplest and most unpretentious marigold flower. What is special about it? The variety of varieties in our time is so great that not a single flower bed can do without it. The duration of flowering, easily tolerates small cold snaps, many of the most incredible colors - makes it an exceptional and favorite plant at all times
Marigolds in my understanding have long been a classic. Tall and low, large and small, terry and simple - in any form they look gorgeous on flower beds, both in single plantings and in mixborders. Such different and at the same time beautiful marigolds delight with their flowering until late autumn. And how many useful properties they have !!! Let's consider everything in order.
Species diversity
In culture, the following types of marigolds are most often found:
• upright;
• rejected;
• thin-leaved.
Each of them is beautiful in its own way.
Marigolds erect
This form is represented by branched bushes (lateral shoots are directed upwards) with large double inflorescences, similar to large pompos. All shades of yellow and red prevail. Recently, varieties with cream inflorescences have been bred.
Powerful stems bear large dissected leaves with wide plates of dark emerald color. The height of the bushes varies from 20 to 100 cm. Hybrids of small stature with large double inflorescences look most impressive.
The Enterprise series is only 25 cm high with large caps up to 9 cm in diameter in bright orange and yellow shades. Ideal for containers, borders, creating geometric patterns in flower beds.
A mixture of Aztec orange, golden yellow, pale yellow inflorescences up to 8 cm in diameter are crowned with bushes with 35 cm shoots. Powerful stem, long flowering, natural compactness make them indispensable in landscape design.
The Beatles series are 45 cm high with orange, white, bright yellow buds reaching 8 cm in the phase of complete dissolution. The unique white color expands the possibility of using in compositions with other species in mixed flower beds.
The orange giant strikes with a meter-high stem with giant inflorescences up to 14 cm in a rich orange range. Gives a unique bright accent among tall plants in a flower bed. Suitable for creating backgrounds in floral arrangements.
Marigolds rejected
Plants from 20 to 60 cm tall with dissected emerald leaves. The central stem is erect. It branches strongly, forming lush bushes. Lateral shoots retreat at an angle, which is why this species is called rejected.
The inflorescences are terry and simple from 4 to 6 cm. The palette of colors is very diverse: all shades of yellow, orange, burgundy, brownish. Two-tone varieties with an incredible combination of patterns on the petals look especially gorgeous.
The most interesting hybrids:
1. Bolero - up to 30 cm tall with double marble inflorescences (red-brown-yellow) in diameter up to 5 cm.
2. Bonanza Flame - stems grow up to 20 cm, double flowers about 6 cm. Petals with a bright red center and yellow edge. Early variety.
3. Harlequin - 35 cm tall. Red-yellow striped petals effectively form simple inflorescences with a diameter of 5 cm.
Marigolds are thin-leaved
This species appeared on sale relatively recently, but gardeners have already fallen in love with graceful bushes 20-40 cm high with finely cut greenery. Inflorescences are simple, small, up to 3 cm, two-colored: yellow, orange, burgundy with specks, stripes and bizarre patterns.
Strongly branched bushes. In adulthood, they look like miniature balls, which are strewn with small "stars" of flowers against a background of openwork greenery. Looks beautiful in flowerpots, along the edge of mixborders, rabatok.
The Starshine variety is a mixture of all colors of this species with interesting patterns on the petals.
Last year I put him in old basins, buckets without a bottom. In the first container, they clearly lacked the depth of the soil. They grew short, did not bush well. But in a high bucket they felt at ease. They formed an air cloud and made them happy until late autumn.
All types of marigolds are indispensable in creating bright compositions on any shape of a flower bed. It is better to use a large container as flowerpots and pots so that the flowers do not suffer from a lack of space.
In bouquets, they cost more than two weeks. Dried - perfect for floristry. At the same time, the color of the petals remains bright and does not fade over time.
