When growing a variety of crops in vegetable gardens and orchards, watering the plants is very important and necessary. But not every summer resident knows how to perform them as correctly and competently as possible. Moistening the soil must be carried out carefully and accurately, with a reasonable approach. In the procedure, the type of culture and the irrigation technologies necessary for it are important. Some techniques allow you to retain water for a long time inside the soil

What are the types of watering?

In fact, there are a wide variety and interesting irrigation schemes. The options have a direct relationship with the planning and arrangement of the territory. An important role is played by the variety of soil and cultivated crops. Basically, irrigation differs in the type of moisture supply. Among them, it is worth noting sprinkling, drip, surface and subsurface irrigation.

Features of surface irrigation

Surface irrigation is soil moistening along furrows (it can also be ring irrigation, in the case of irrigation around a tree or bush). Also, this watering can be performed in bowls and checks. It is almost always performed on level areas of the garden with good permeable soil. Summer residents very often water the plants along the longitudinal furrows. This method is used in the situation of planting plants in a straight line.

It is very well suited for even or slightly sloped beds. In other cases, moisture will drain quickly without blotting the soil. There is also a risk of stagnation at the beginning of the groove. In other words, normal moisture will not be provided. In such situations, as a rule, the depth of the furrows is ten to fifteen centimeters. On light types of soils, water will go into the inner part of the furrows, on heavy soils - it will be evenly distributed in all directions.

How to water plants in bowls and checks?

This method consists in filling a special place with water around a bush or tree, which is surrounded by a roller of earth. It is most often used in case of poor water resistance of the soil.

Sprinkler irrigation

Sprinkler irrigation is an irrigation procedure that is carried out by gardeners quite often. Its specificity is characterized by the crushing of a water jet, which is supplied in advance with a strong pressure. As a result, drops are formed using special nozzles. This method has many advantages. For example, the soil is wetted rather thoroughly and quickly. Even areas with a complex relief structure and large slopes can be irrigated. Unlike other irrigation schemes, a summer resident spends a minimum of effort when sprinkling. Water is also saved.

Sprinkler irrigation is ideal for wetting light types of soil where perennial grasses grow. However, in relation to heavy soil, sprinkling should not be used in any case. In such a situation, water penetrates very poorly, as a result of which puddles form. Erosion processes may also appear.

Drip type of irrigation

Drip irrigation is a scheme for implementing the procedure for moistening the soil by supplying water drip to where a larger section of the root system is located. The water should be gradually distributed on all sides. Watering is carried out by means of droppers that regulate irrigation rates. The number of devices is based on the type of crop being grown, the type of soil, the size of the plants. You can use this method on uneven terrains and areas with a strong slope. The type of soil for such irrigation can be any. The process saves water by eighty percent.

Subsoil watering

Subsoil irrigation began to spread only recently, but in terms of water saving it is not inferior to other options. In its implementation, the water supply is carried out under the soil directly to the area of the root system. Water is carried out using humidifier tubes.

Thus, the water does not evaporate at all. The weeds begin to grow much smaller and the nutritional conditions for the plants are excellent. Each summer resident can choose the method that is more suitable for his garden (slopes, soil types) and individual preferences. All methods have their own advantages and strengths. Proper watering will ensure a wonderful harvest, which will delight you not only with its abundance, but also with its quality.
