A necessary condition for the normal functioning of indoor plants is correct and timely watering. Beginning flower girls will need a little practice, experience and intuition, as the necessary conditions for the growth of different plants are different
It is almost impossible to determine whether indoor flowers, for example, with hard leaves, have enough water, since they have no external signs of wilting. It should also be taken into account that at different times of the year the plant requires an unequal amount of water. Watering is generally considered to be pouring the soil from above. But this is not the case. You can water it at the root, and periodically sprinkling the leaves, and immersing the pot in water. But this must be done skillfully, because with rare and insufficient watering, small roots dry out, which significantly reduces water absorption. And if it is too frequent, the soil becomes acidic, the plants begin to hurt.
Water so that the roots "breathe" and the topsoil dries up and turns gray between waterings.
In winter, water the succulent rosette (agave, aloe) by immersing the pot in a container filled with water. This will reduce the excess content of mineral salts in the soil.
Choose a watering method based on the type of plant, the required care conditions, and the environment.
Watering rules
1. The water temperature should always be room temperature or slightly warmer. It is recommended to water the flowers with warm water during intensive growth, and during the dormant period, the increased water temperature will cause premature processes.
2. Use only settled water for your flowers. Collect ordinary tap water in a container and let it stand for a day, while the chlorine will evaporate, and the temperature will reach room temperature.
3. Do not water the flowers with boiled water, as it loses its beneficial properties.
4. If the water is too hard, add 0.2 g of oxalic acid per 10 liters of liquid, let stand to let the salts settle, and use the transparent top.
5. When watering tuberous plants, direct the stream of water to the edge of the pot so as not to flood the tuber.
6. Epiphytic plants that are grown in baskets are moistened by immersing the pots in a bowl of water for a few minutes, then allowing excess liquid to drain.
7. Watering should be plentiful in summer, moderate in autumn and winter.
8. When water is not absorbed during irrigation, but remains on the surface, it means that there is poor drainage in the tank. In this case, it should be provided by plant transplantation.
9. In summer, it is better to water the flowers in the evening, in extreme heat - in the morning. Find a wooden stick and loosen the soil between waterings. The loosening process will allow the roots to "breathe".
10. If the soil in the pot is too dry, the water may not be absorbed, it may roll down the walls. To fully moisturize the soil, dip the flowerpot in a container of water.
11. In spring, as soon as there is more light and heat and the plant enters a phase of intensive growth, increase watering.
12. Watch the temperature drop, limit the amount of water, otherwise indoor flowers will not withstand the load.
13. In winter and autumn, when the heating is turned on, and there is not enough daylight (daylight hours decreases), there is a disproportion between illumination and temperature.
Going on vacation
Leaving on vacation, caring housewives worry about their "green pets". Someone asks to water the neighbors' flowers, others come up with various designs for watering. Leave indoor flowers unattended for a long time only if they are provided with water.
Ways of watering plants in the absence of owners:
- Place all flower pots on the floor. Between them there should be a stool, and on it a container with water, from which the strings stretch to each flower. To prevent the strings from falling out of the container, press them to the bottom with something heavy.
-Make a dropper for the plants using plastic 5 liter containers so that the water slowly moistens the soil. This method is suitable for large plants.
- If you are away for more than two weeks, then put all the plants in a large basin and pour water into it.
- To reduce the consumption of water by flowers, create conditions when metabolic processes are slow. To do this, position the flower pots so that the plant receives a moderate amount of light.
- You don't have to worry about cacti: it will be enough to water them once before leaving.
