If you dream of decorating your home with graceful pots with lush blooming bright plants, then pay attention to Ahimenes. In June, the period of active flowering of this indoor plant just begins, and it is on these days that its beauty is revealed in full force
Enchanting tenderness of magic flowers
Ahimenes is truly a summer plant. No wonder, when translated from Greek, this name means "afraid of the cold." This is not surprising, since the native places of the flower are the tropics and Central America. For its charming decorative appearance, the plant received another very poetic name - the magic flower.
Its beauty is truly fabulous and unusual. This is a herbaceous plant that spreads out in a pot in a neat bush. Some varieties take on a graceful ampelous shape as they grow. Leaves are medium in size, oval with a pointed end, rich green color. The plate has deep veins and a scalloped edge. Its peculiarity is in the smallest hairs that cover the entire surface of the leaf.
Buds are formed along the entire length of the stem, if it is an ampelous variety, or densely frame the crown of a bushy plant. The flowers are of an unusual elongated tubular shape, but the petals are quite round and open wide. The flower is about 3-5 cm in diameter, but there are also larger specimens. Petals are smooth and terry, corollas are of a wide variety of colors: blue, crimson, yellow. There are two-tone varieties, with beautiful contrasting edging along the edge of the petals.
Conditions of detention in room conditions
The flowering period, as a rule, falls in the summer and lasts until autumn. Some hustlers begin to open the buds as early as May. This is rather an exception, but if desired, a florist can help his pet to bloom by the beginning of May. To do this, after the winter transplantation of the tuber, which is carried out at the end of January, with the appearance of the first stalks, you need to add a fresh earthen mixture to the pot. The optimal composition for achimenes is:
• deciduous land - 2 parts;
• sod land - 1 part;
• sand - 1 part.
To the substrate add 50 g of horny flour and superphosphate, a glass of dry cow dung.
A warm place is taken for the pot. It is important that this corner is well lit. The fierce enemy of our flowerpots is piercing drafts. Also achimenes does not tolerate dry air. Remember that in its natural habitat, it grows in tropical climates. In this regard, the plant will be grateful to the owners of the apartment if bowls with wet sand or moss are placed next to its pot. On winter days, it is advised to arrange additional artificial lighting.
Flowers can only be watered through the pallet. This precaution is taken to prevent water droplets from sprinkling on the leaves. The intensity of watering is reduced after the end of the flowering period. When the aboveground part of the plant dries up completely, it is no longer necessary to moisten the soil. The dry top is cut off, and the pot with the tuber is sent to a dark, cool place for wintering at a temperature of about + 16 ° C.
Reproduction of achimenes
Achimenes is not difficult to propagate with seeds collected from your indoor flower. Seeds begin to ripen in the 3rd month after the start of flowering. Achimenes produces small green fruits that become soft as they ripen. At the stage of maturity, they are harvested in order to sow in early spring, in early March. Under favorable conditions, seedlings appear in 15-20 days. Ahimenes is grown with a double pick. When young plants are relocated to individual pots, it is useful to carry out mineral fertilizing with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers at intervals of 2 weeks.
