The short petioles hold green ovoid leaves with a glossy surface. At the beginning of summer, panicle inflorescences with large yellowish-cream bracts bloom, crawling over each other and giving decorative effect to the bush.

Growing

Growing Rhubarb is considered to be of medium difficulty, although the plant does not make any special claims to the gardener.

A sunny place is better suited for him, but in partial shade it will grow without problems. The culture is winter-hardy. Actually, only the rhizome has to overwinter, since the aboveground part of the plant dies by winter.

The soil for Rhubarb needs fertile, fertilized with organic matter, loose, non-acidic, moist, but without stagnant water. Summer watering of the plant is abundant.

Reproduction

Two types of reproduction are practiced:

1) sowing seeds, which can be carried out in the spring immediately in the open field;

2) division of an adult bush, or rather, its rhizomes. Each part must have its own roots and at least one living bud.

Enemies

Rhubarb, as a rule, does an excellent job with potential enemies, not succumbing to their provocations.

The weak point of the plant is its roots, which, with an excess or stagnation of moisture in the soil, can become covered with mold, which will further affect the entire plant.

In addition, harmful insects living in the soil sometimes feast on roots, gnawing them so hard that the plant loses its nutrition and dies.
